Has anybody ever been to Tahiti?

So I've been checking out the Tahiti tourism website and I have to say, I really want to go there someday. More specifically Moorea, those on-the-water huts are just beautiful.

So for anybody that has been there. Any suggestions on the best time of year to go? Should I stick with Moorea or another one of the islands? Mainly I just want to go so I can put my feet up and enjoy the atmosphere and scenery.

I haven't been myself but my grandfather went in about 2000 and fell in love with the place (so much so he painted a mural in his bathroom of it :lol.

Sadly he passed away in 2005 so I can't ask him for any tips for you, but I do believe he went September time He went there via Australia on a sort of whim.
