Fairly tasteless, but the article states that

"The contest generated little coverage in the Iranian press and many ordinary Iranians expressed little interest, or criticized the exhibit as unnecessarily provocative."

So while the president is an insensitive freak, this doesn't speak for the whole of Iran, which is certainly a good thing, albeit minor.

Interesting news though, Mcphisto.

Iran did this in response to the Danish cartoon incident. Quite Childishly.

Free speech wins out, but Iran doesn't even have a free press or media. So this is state sponsored kick in the teeth.

Well no one was murdered and no mobs threw moltav cocktails at people, because of this cartoon contest in Iran.

So that gets me to thinking, the point of the cartoon contest was to show the double standard of the "Western" free press.

It actually shows the double standard the other way around in my opinion. Nice one Iran for pointing out the real double standard that exists.

Well said.

It is worth noting that historically Iran was one of the few states in the M.E. that afforded jews equal status. After Israel declared independence every Arab state responded by deporting most of their own Jewish citizens. Even after the overthrow of the Shah, Iran refrained from retaliating against their own jewish population. Excepting Israel, I believe they currently have the largest jewish community in the M.E.

Which makes news like this seem even more depressing.

You know what is sad? When it comes time for Iran to pay the piper, and it will come, the people who are going to pay is the Iranian citizens.

.....And we still have yet to see the band of marauding and riotous Jews burning cars, buildings, and murdurering non-Jews in angry protest over this cartoon.
Notice how there have been no death threats against the "artist" of that cartoon!! And I highly doubt there will be

Uh; What "double standard" exaclty are you talking about? If you're talking about the fact that it's blasphemy and apostacy with a punnishment of death for criticizing Islam in Iran--then I agree. Their hypocracy (and intolerance) has no boundaries.

Give it time, it took a while for the muslims to get ahold of the Danish funny pages. The second this news hits Florida it's on.....
