We understand the power of crowds. A barmy army off football hooligans, mayday anarchists and the ability to mass millions of people in the streets of Westminster within 24 hours.

lol.. well, I guess I should really add a disclaimer saying I don't in anyway advocate or condone violence, but it the context of the thread, it illutrates one of the reasons, people power, why we don're really feel threatened by the authorites. checks and balances I guess... much of Europe is the same.. always willing to demonstrate en-masse.

I often find it interesting that here in the cradle of democracy that our every move is observed. Also the fact that we are told that these cameras prevent crime etc. Oh really, has anyone checked the crime figures in the UK, their going through the roof, violent crime is on the increase and has been for a number of years. Cameras do not stop people being attacked, they do not stop rape, they do not stop chidren being abducted and worst of all they do not seem to provide the police with the evidence they require for succesful prosecutions.

Cameras are just a cheap alternative to bobies on the beat, and at that they are a very poor alternative. People who are on the receiving end of crime dont want cameras they want a visible and credible police force that deters crime from happening in the first place. All these cameras only bother law abiding people they have no effect of the criminal element, if they did then crime would be decreasing.

The first rule of law enforcement is to prevent crime and maintain law and order, we are now in a situation where we allow people to break the law and then try to deal with it. Cameras, micro chips none of this will prevent or reduce crime, visable detterents do and effective policing do.

I have nothing to say to them, I can see why our forefathers broke away from the motherland.....

British people take note. This is not freedom it is jail. You like jail? Do you enjoy it... Then fight it.

::EDIT::

Go on big boy.

Just one example of Brits rallying for a cause
'Million' March Against Iraq War
Let me remind you, the population of the UK is 60 million people, so that's one person in every 60 in the UK at that rally

I am amazed at a few of the comments i have read here.

"I cant say much for the British.. They don't have balls to stand up and fight what is wrong, they cant get up and say that they don't like camera every 2 ft, they will enjoy being chipped in 10 yrs. "

On the whole I agree, we are a country full of lethargic drones and the surveillance system has crept up on the majority without them batting an eyelid.

And this..

"I have nothing to say to them, I can see why our forefathers broke away from the motherland....."

You never broke from the mother land.. I share a theory with many.. The uk uses the US as it's booted right foot. The seat of all world Masonic power resides in the UK, in London and with the Scottish Rite in Scotland. The freemasons built the USA. Take a look at the street maps of Washington (the US's seat of power) featured so heavily on this forum. What better way for the powers that be to stomp on the rest of the world without any repercussions at it's power base.. If it appears that the US is the baddie.. They will ultimately take the flak. Ever thought your administration are merely puppets of something much bigger?

And this..

"How does it affect me?...... errrrr it doesn't. It makes me feel safe, knowing that there are people watching out for possible signs of trouble. If you obey the law, you have nothing to fear. It's the laws like your patriot act that I would fear the most."

It makes you feel safe? Are you serious. What about your civil liberties? What about your privacy? How do you know the people compiling all your most private information have honest intentions?

You may not be breaking any laws now but what about all of your recorded actions and movements coming back to haunt you in the future, when new laws are imposed making even the simplest actions illegal. All it takes is a click of a button and your life will be profiled and your file pulled. Just appearing on this forum could be enough to flag you for 're-education'.

And this..

"The way I see it is that it's not much more different then having more officers around the city monitering what's going on. This is just more efficient."

And how is it more efficient? An officer on the beat is able to react and assist as well as being a visible deterrent. A camera is no deterrent. All you have at the end of the day is an mpeg file of some unrecognisable guy in a hoodie stamping your head into the ground.

Our governments own research has found that CCTV is not a crime deterrent.. news.bbc.co.uk...
and news.bbc.co.uk...

Then there is the fact that all cctv in towns is being upgraded to bring in revenue from motorists. Ask any uk copper and they will tell you all this is doing is criminalising the whole of the population committing the smallest of parking offences and turning the public against the police. But hey.. as long as they are raising cash for more cameras eh?

New systems with facial recognition are able to hold parents responsible for kids playing truant and log the movement of any of those not already carrying a mobile phone.

Oh.. and this...

"That's what I don't get.. It's not as though the guy watching is focussed on anyone that isn't looking like they're blatantly suspicious..
They're only scrutinised AFTER a crime has been commited or if lucky, DURING, When someone could be lucky enough to have their life saved during an assault and witnesses too."

The UK now has behavioural software connected to CCTV that can automatically assess 'suspicious' activity like standing in a group of popping into more that a handful of shops.. I mean come on.. with systems like this we don't need to be chipped.

Personally I think there are are better ways to police that are more personal and create more of a feeling of community rather than sticking all these eyes in hidden places so they can indiscriminately watch our every move in a godlike fashion.

I'm glad you brought this up. It's a disturbing notion for any US citizen who happens to believe in this theory. I'm sure there was an Alex Jones documentary that mentioned this... Does anybody know which documentary I'm talking about?

Personally I cannot feel safe in the glare of a camera's eye. The concept of police on the beat is an incredibly rare thing these days. I recall an incident locally where several youths were attacked by a mob of drunken teenagers. The police were called to the scene only to say, "Is this it? We've come all this way for this?" (The kids had been beaten up, and the teenagers were still in the area waiting to attack them again! The police had travelled less the 2 miles to get to the scene!) And where do our taxes go?

It's truly a shame we don't have any good anecdotes about UK policing. Perhaps these police were victims themselves?.. Their bad reputations demoralising them to the point they think, Why the hell should they bother?

Or are we rushing any thug into the force only to find there is no differance from them and the people they are meant to be protecting the decent folk from?

It's got to be all down to either training or the fact that power corrupts.

Well a friend of mine (who shall remain nameless) has been a policeman now for about 3 or 4 years. According to him there is an awful lot of racism/prejudice on the force (Greater Manchester), for example, certain 'officers' will stop and question Asian men & other ethnic minorities purely because of their ethnic background. Apparently it is quite acceptable to harass ethnic minorities in the North West.

In this case it seems to be a tendency to kowtow to group pressure, basic conformity?

Like i said.. It seems that the police are all too human after all and are just as much the victims of social prejudices.

Perhaps they are too desperate to hire people into the ranks to actually vet and assess for racism.

They are sure to need a few thousand more.. Especially if they want to install the final chapter of the creation of a police state with the introduction of the ID card.
