This is an old article i found from 2002, i think its really interesting in the points that are raised.

SENIOR LABOUR MPs reacted with fury last night after Tony Blair's key foreign policy adviser called for "a new kind of imperialism" to enable the UK to intervene abroad to combat global terror threats.

In a move that will further unnerve backbenchers worried about possible military action against Iraq, Robert Cooper said that it was the task of liberal democracies to "bring order" to the rest of the world.

Writing in a new pamphlet on the long-term implications of 11 September, Mr Cooper, a senior Foreign Office diplomat attached to Downing Street, said: "The need for colonisation is as great as it ever was in the 19th century".

A diplomat appointed personally by Mr Blair to represent the UK at the Bonn conference on Afghanistan's future last year, Mr Cooper's views on global threats have heavily influenced the Prime Minister since the terror attacks.

Reintroduction towards rebuilding and creating new colonies can be a good thing i believe. China are basically carrying out a colonisation policy in parts of Africa and it benefits the economy of that Country and China too.

Of course, the article is from four years ago, but the points raised are still up for a debate.

I don't think referring to this as a form of 'British imperialism' is accurate.

Certainly the record of British military intervention (whether it be Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan or Sierra Leone) shows Blair and this Labour Gov have always sought an international effort, not a solely British one.....and the aftermath does not indicate a form of British colonial rule either.

Can you have an international imperialism, 'UN-style imperialism' or a 'NATO imperialism'?
I don't think so.
