In the UK at the mo we are experiencing weather that is a bit uncanny. It is November next week and people are still going around in summer clothes most of the time. The temperature is uncanny. It is warm. I switched off my heating and opened the windows today. I cannot remember the last time it was still this warm this late in the year in the UK. Should we get used to this?

Looks like El Niño and the NAO is the main culprit for the late/mild winter.

Swans forecasting a late/mild winter:

Swans deliver a climate change warning - Independent UK

This year, a dramatic decline in numbers of the distinctive yellow-billed swans skidding into their winter feeding grounds could be the harbinger of a more dramatic shift in weather patterns: global warming. Ornithologists at the main reserves that host the birds, the smallest of Britain's swans, said only a handful had appeared on lakes and water courses. Normally, there would be several hundred.

In Welney, Cambridgeshire, where there are normally 100 Bewick's by the end of October as the vanguard for a winter population of 1,000; a solitary male was this week the sole representative.

Should revert to a more normal winter season next year, since the current El Niño phase is forecasted to end in mid 2007. A few mets are forecasting this winter will be extreme cold in the North UK and mild in the South.

Global warming is making many meteorologists scratch their heads in confusion. It has been rather difficult to do any long term forecasting when the models have little historical context to draw from. The Atlantic hurricane season that fizzled was a good example of erroneous forecasting, so these could be the days that anything goes.

One thing this global climate change is telling us for sure, be ready for extreme weather.

...and 2 days later Denmark had the first hurricane, partly blizzard, of the seasons.

Storms are common there this time of the year, but I've never seen it coming with snow that early, Mostly don't come before the end of November.

And right, less than a week ago it was mild late summer temperatures.

Yes, weather is f#ed up!

Here in the States (Wisconsin to be precise) we are having a very cold time of the season. Usually we get what we call an "Indian Summer" mid October or early November and it's been very cold. Still no Indian Summer yet. We are having way below average temps here. Wish we were having your weather!
