Medical Sills

Whilst a soldier by trade, it is a little known fact that I trained as a nurse in my younger days. While I am no longer registered, I keep up to date with recent changes in practice. I also ensure that I attend as many first-aid courses as possible. I am a civilian wilderness first aid instructor and teach battlefield casualty drills to troops.

I believe that in Sit x there will be mass casualties. The ability to treat yourself and those around you is hugely important. I am more than willing to pass on any information that I have in order to help the masses.

This thread is a great idea. Sharing knowledge empowers us all to survive.

Also good to see PaddyInf posting on here. I have learned to tweak up my radar when I see Paddy's post on a board.

I have read some of the FoxFire books years ago and found them very good and informative. I have not, however, heard of the Bushmaster magazine and have book marked it for future reference. I thank the poster for this site.

Agree with someone post here that leadership would be core in any such venture. This is a quality which seems to be very lacking from our political system for some time now. Lacking from the system in numerous other countrys too.

Those of you who have ever worked in hazardous occupations requiring diciplined thinking and qualified teamwork type behavior/conduct ...can spot leadership quialitys quickly or know what it entails. It is a huge responsibility.

The Libras concept here is valid. Well stated olde man!!

I would like to say or add that certain leadership traits will also be important as a skill on the list. Included in the leadership traits is the ability to work or gel as a team. Teamwork. Individual ability is always good but the ability to shift gears sufficient to work as a team can make a huge difference.

Agree with your point on leadership. All the knowledge sharing in the world is of little consequence if there are not strong minded and experienced individuals with the foresight to bring it all together. Such an individual may not have a particular physical skill per se, but they may have the brains to make a coherant entity from a jumble of mixed knowledge.

Now, has anyone actually written any Trade Threads yet? I've been studying carpentry and using my bathroom as a testing ground, but I'm willing to bet there's people who know a lot more about it than I do, since I'm still learning to correct mistakes like "too much stain".

I agree that thread on Leadership is a fantastic idea, and will absolutely be an essential trait towards a group of people surviving Situation X. I've had a ton of formal training and quite a bit of practice in this area, and wouldn't mind putting together a thread on that, and then leave it open for others to contribute their own styles and training (or questions and problems) as well. If no one else calls it, I'll start working on this this week.

One thing to keep in mind is that after a Sit-X, tools are going to be the only true wealth.

Get what you think you'll need for your particular craft now.
Concentrate on hand tools and learn the skill to use them.
Power tools can come later - or along the way.

To a thinking person there will be lots of ways to drive power tools, but hand tools are the most important.

As stated, best to develop these skills now.

Students become mentors who become teachers who become students thereby closing a circle in their life....
