Bird Flu.....Cover Up?

OK. Watching Stargate SG-1 at the moment and the story they are going with is about being that can cause a Plague(The Fourth Horsemen).
The planet is at risk of falling to this and it got me thinking.
What if H5N1 was a 'pre-emptive' cover-up.
Think about it. If it was something that no government could tell the world, wouldn't it be perfect if in the consciousness of society there was something that we are told would wipe out a HUGE proportion of us.
