To all the Canadians and even those who are not living in the States.
If the U.S.A. was to be attacke dor invaded would you enlist to help them out or would you you sit back and let them deal with it alone. I ask this to Canadians because of how we are all part of North America.

I would head south to help them out because I look at an invasion on the States as an invasion on North America which Canada is a large part of.

Just wondering where other Canadians stand on this issue

I'm quite sure that Canada would help where possible, particularly in an invasion of the sovereign land mass of the United States of America. Could Canada help much?

Not in the way of military materiel resources - we can't even get our obsolete tanks painted the correct colour for Afgani service, or keep our obsolete subs in service, or keep our choppers flying, or keep our CF-18's from cracking airframes and busting landing gear.

We could, and I hope would help, with personnel... Canada has a wonderful history of volunteerism - our sevice-folks are second to none when it comes to grit, determination and resourcefulness. We leave no one behind and know the meaning of duty and valor.

Now if we could just get the Americans to stop accidentally killing our service people and if the American public, media and especially government were a little more polite and respectful of our sovereignty and unique national identity then public support would be a natural and a given.

Can you imagine the "hue and cry" if a Canadian service-person accidentally "greased" an American soldier? Think about it... think of what FOX would broadcast...

Of course Canada would be of some assistance.

Wasn't 9/11 an example?

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice thanked Canadians for helping stranded passengers after the 9/11 attacks, calling it a reminder of the friendship between the two countries as she visited Nova Scotia on Monday.

Rice took part in an afternoon ceremony at Halifax International Airport to mark the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States. Her audience included some of the many volunteers from Halifax and other communities in Atlantic Canada who helped host 21,000 passengers after air traffic was shut down over the United States in the wake of the attacks.

We are helping in Afghanistan.

Pretty sure we would help you out right at home.

I'm Canadian and I don't hate Americans, thats not to say I like Bush...

I can't speak for the whole country, but our Military would certainly be there defending America. The people may however tend to shy away until the war crossed into our part of N.A. I think the majority of support would be seen by us setting up refugee camps for the displaced peoples and providing more humanitarian aid than military.

Personally, I would be there for the People of America. But if Bush started recruiting us, I'd dodge the draft....

I have never met a Canadian I did not like. Although I would guess I would have problems with some of the East Coasters the same as I have problems with East Coast Americans. I even learned to sing the Canadian National Anthom in French at a Nascar race. They are good people with good values and I compare the ones that I know to any normal guy from Wisconsin that likes to party, fish and hunt. They also seem to have very good family values with their wives and children. I would gladly fight for them and let them use some of my guns.

I'm not entirely sure about the technical points of how NATO works, but I think that NATO cause's Canada to have an obligation to help us out. That of course works both ways so of course I'd probably be up there fighting along side the Canadians if the # hit the fan up there.

But really as an American I love my Canadian neighbors, they're such kind neighbors who usually don't cause any problems. We trade with eachother, visit eachother's national parks, and play hockey together. Unlike our neighbor's government to the south that whines whenever we try building a fence on our own territory, but even still I love the Mexican people enough to help them out in a time of need. So overall I'd be willing to fight to help out any of my neighboring countries since the US has had the good fortune of having some pretty great people next door.

You're thinking about NORAD. Yes we do have mutual defense pacts now and have never let anyone of our allies down when they were under direct threat. We supported you in Afganistan and probably would have supported a protracted campaign if you guys had not let yourselves get distracted by Iraq.

I would not support Mexico other than to make sure another power did not control the country. The Mexican government has betrayed the USA many times during past wars by helping spys. Mexico will betray us again with letting in and helping terrorist.

obligation and if I can toss around a rather non-Canadian term...duty.

In spite of the current admin...I couldn't sit back and do nothing knowing that our neighbor was being invaded. That directly affects Canada IMO. Yeah I'd do what I could...and inspite of the current admin...I feel confident that they too would rise to our aid in such an event.

Politics should never override common sense.

You have help from places other than canada...Im sure Hungary would step in and help. (as ironic as it seems) They support all the occupying nations: The turks, the austrians, the germans, the russians (yeah, i know the rebellion which didnt succeed, but people dont have a voice in reality, it was destined to fail) and now the americans.
I know, I know, the E.U., but behind that is a firmer support for America I would venture.

As I said, and will say, all the clowns in the top end of governments around the world are in the same social club. Thats how we have international laws that people tend to forget exist and are forced upon countries.

Peace to all

Earlier today I brought this question up with a few of my close friends and got some interesting feedback, the four of us usually agree on everything.
(we are kind of a radical bunch.. at least in how we think. If war hit Canada, we would form/join a resistance movement. This doesn't mean we're plotting against the gov't though, our intentions are good I assure you)

There was my opinion as stated above; The people probably wouldn't be too inclined to go off and fight until the war crossed the border.

Two of my friends agreed that if America was successfully invaded, they would head out to the farm and dig in. Basically they shared the opinion that a war on American soil is a war on Canadian soil as well, and would prepare to defend.

Thirdly was the, "screw America, let them deal with it." response. Followed by, "and if that war gets to us, I hope we take over America after we bail them out!" (I disagree with this. No-one should overthrow anyone in North America, I like to think we're all better than that...)

I know 3 people doesn't count for cencus, I am interested however, in knowing what other Canadians have to say.

I'm still quite the n00b to the boards and I've never really participated in a research project before. I know this question really isn't research, but I think it would be a good place to start. So, I'll ask as many people in my community as I can to find their place on the issue. I should be able to get 250 samples or so over the next week. I'll let you all know what I find.

You're damn right they would help each others in a war. As a matter of fact they already do, today I was reading in the news about one of the U.S. Marine killed in Iraq was a French Canadian from Quebec, Canada.

Canadian-born U.S. marine killed in Iraq
Updated Mon. Oct. 16 2006 11:27 PM ET

Associated Press

FORT HOOD, Texas -- A Texas soldier and a marine born in Canada were killed during combat operations in Iraq, the military said Monday.

I travel both in USA and Canada, there is great cohesion between people from both countries. The bikering is only an age-old tradition, deep down they love each others. We are all North Americans after all. Both countries would help out in a war without hesitation.

Then you have the disgusting political disputes, such as USA screwing Canada over lumber market, or the USA government pushing for enacting the passport requirement in 2007 to cross the Canadian border, or US authorities lying to Canada in order to extradite a Canadian citizen then shipping him in Syria for torture, etc. But I consider all of this a whole another story. I maintain that us lowly peons from USA and Canada still love each others.

I went and checked and we're both right. Although we've got NORAD with you lovely Canucks, we're also both in NATO together. The main focus of NATO is summed up with this passage I found on wiki's article;

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all. Consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defense recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

But even if we didn't have treaties I'm sure most of us down here would gladly help you guys out if you ever pissed off another country like we do all the time, if that's even possible.

technically speaking, yes.
because there are already canadians serving in the american army. i have a friend who joined. the nutbar.

ameica was taken over long ago, though. wake up, everyone. the federal reserve is just the same old thirteen illuminati bloodlines under the merovingian OWNING you and yours, like the american revolution never happened. (even the american revolution was just another ordo ab chaos jig)

i recommend noone ever join any army. there would be no war, if people would just take my very wise advice.

and, what price do you pay, and what reward do you get for fighting to keep the rich rich and empowered, and the poor killing each other and caged?

Besides Canada's treaty obligations (NORAD etc.) to help, it would be in their interest. It seems to me unlikely that an invasion of the US would not also be an invasion of Canada. The defense of North America is fairly integrated but also holding Canada would make an occupation of the US more feasible and defensible. The reverse would also be true - the US would defend Canada.

These illuminati creeps own the Central bank of Canada as well. Actually most Canadians are brainwashed - indoctrinated from public school to think the U.N. is a wonderful peace oriented organization. Nothing is further from the truth. Canadians have absolutley NO property rights. Communism took over Canada along time ago under the name Socialism/liberalism. The problem is most Canadians refuse to open their eyes and can't stop sucking the gov't tit for benefits that the gov't hands out which in reality cost twice as much as if they paid themselves. Our taxes in Canada are out of control. We can't afford to equip our own military.
But I know for a fact western Canadains would rush to help Americans immediately. Got to watch out for Trudeau's Jesuits though! Still have not rescinded the War Powers Act.

Enlist... Carry a Gun ... Protect People, by Killing people.... Short Answer... No.

Long answer..

I will gladly participate in an effort to ban all weapons, fire-arms, bombs... everything used for destruction...
I would gladly participate in a conference/conversation of peace. Violent action does not require violent action...
I would like to settle the matters of the world in terms of practicality.
It is far better spreading understanding and peace with understanding and peace...

A persons best defense is their intentions. A person holding a gun is not a man of peace. argue with me all you want. you can't KEEP peace... its everywhere... (without us mostly) although we also 'contain' the power to BRING Peace... but it must be done selflessly.

What alliance is this that you speak of? I know Canada has NORAD and NATO with the US, but I don't know of a single thing that Canada has with Russia. Aside from NATO working with Russia in Bosnia, I don't think that Canada has a single defensive agreement with the Russians.

Although even if Canada did have an alliance with Russia, I doubt the average Canadian person would be willing to go along with it against the US. We're way too good of friends with our northern neighbors, that and the best Russian hockey players came to the NHL.

How fine a point can I put on this...

I leave for Canadian Forces Basic in twenty-eight hours.

Blood of our blood, right? Despite all the differences we've had, America is still like our cousin, like England is our brother.
