Bin Laden may be dead of Typhoid, according to Sky News, reporting on a French Newspaper article. The regional newspaper claims to have documentation from the French intelligence services quoting 'reliable sources'.

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has died of typhoid in Pakistan, according to reports in a regional French newspaper.

The paper quoted one of the country's secret service reports, saying that Saudi Arabia is convinced that Bin Laden died a month ago.

L'Est Republicain also said a copy of the report was shown to President Jacques Chirac and the French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin.

To steal from 'A Tale of Two Cities', 'They seek him here, they seek him there.....those Americans seek him everywhere'. The Scarlet Pimpernel of Islamic Fundamentalism may (or may not) be dead.

Ever since the 'miraculous' escape from Tora Bora, he's been hiding somewhere in the North West Frontier, sheltered by tribal leaders. Assuming you believe the US is looking for him in the first place.

I wonder if there's ever going to be concrete proof of what happened to him, or will he simply 'vanish' from history, if not the conspiracy pages?

Ideally if he were to be killed this would be the best way to go about it (or to at least announce it) because if he were killed in battle or captured, tried and executed he could and would be made into a martyr for the cause and potentially more provocative and dangerous (dead or imprisoned). BUT I doubt that the Bush administration has the subtlety to understand things like that. They would be crowing like horny roosters about it.

The United States claims it cannot confirm the report in the French paper:

"We don't have any confirmation of those reports," said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack.

"We have no confirmation of that report," echoed White House spokesman Blair Jones.

A U.S. intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, came closer to an outright denial, saying Washington had no evidence to suggest the French report was true.

Seems this story appears every now and then. I wonder how we will ever know if OBL is dead, or if he dies long ago.

IMO, he died long ago, but the Bush administration doesn't want him to die to continue their crappy War On Terror, because in the head of the average joe, when Ben Laden will be dead, there will be no mean for a War On Terror and soldiers dying abroad trying to secure oil fields for the corporations... And they don't want people to know he's dead because he's dead before the videos were made, so who did them? CIAllywood?

So according to this report he died a month ago. I think we would have heard about it sooner. I'm sure there would have been a funeral, and certainly that would not have been kept a secret all this time.

I doubt anyone will take this seriously unless a videotape is released, or some other proof. But if he is dead, it would be a shame that he was not brought to justice. I’m sure he would have enjoyed the accommodations at gitmo or one of the secret prisons, before being put on trial.

I don't believe this report is true, not that I have any evidence that proves otherwise. However, I suspect this is a tactic used by the US and allies in order to force Bin Laden to show himself. After all, if he doesn't show himself people will actually start to believe that he is dead, which would be a bad thing for him or if he does show himself it just gives the US and allies more "current" evidence that they can use in the search.

This is psychological warfare at its best. On the chess board this strategy would be the equivalent of checking your rival with your rook. Regardless, you are forcing your adversary into an awkward next move they did not intend on making.

Finally, with mid-term elections coming down the final stretch(and summer ending), it is about time we started hunting Bin Laden again!

In another article I found Chirac says that "this report is no way confirmed."

Chirac: Bin Laden Intel Not Confirmed

A leaked French intelligence document raises the possibility Osama bin Laden died of typhoid, but President Jacques Chirac said Saturday the report was "in no way whatsoever confirmed" and officials from Kabul to Washington expressed skepticism about its accuracy.

The regional French newspaper l'Est Republicain printed what it described as a copy of a confidential document from the DGSE intelligence service citing an uncorroborated report from a "usually reliable source" who said Saudi secret services were convinced that bin Laden had died.

Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry offered no details. "I've heard the reports, but I have no information at all. I have no idea," spokesman Mansour al-Turki told The Associated Press.

Al-Qaida would likely release information of bin Laden's death fairly quickly if it were true, said Venzke, whose organization also provides counterterrorism intelligence services for the U.S. government.

"They would want to release that to sort of control the way that it unfolds. If they wait too long, they could lose the initiative on it," he said.

Not even Saudi's where this information supposedly originated can confirm the report.

Tyfoid, That alone seems kind of suspish. He is supose to have kidney problems had not heard of tyfoid before.

I dont think this will ever be resolved though. Even if it beacomes generally accepted that he is dead no one will ever have proof.

So the way that I see it now is will OBL be glory seeking enuff to send out another tape recording.

Almost every one suspected it now hear is at least one conformation.

Saudi authorities rejected the information originally published by French newspaper L'Est Republicain about the death of world’s most wanted terrorist, the founder of al-Qaeda terrorist network, Osama bin Laden. An official statement released by the government of Saudi Arabia said that it was speculative information the reliability of which was not confirmed by independent sources.

Yes Bin Laden is still alive or so it would seem. I did not find to may people that really thought he was dead.

However perhaps this was a ploy so there would not be quite so many looking for him
