Iran leader says pope remarks part of US-Israeli conspiracy
Sep 18 8:21 AM US/Eastern

Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei has said remarks by the pope on Islam and violence were just the latest "links in the chain" of a US-Israeli conspiracy aimed at creating conflict between religions.
"Leaders of the arrogant imperialists have already defined the links of the chain in this US-Zionist project by attacking Iraq," Khamenei said in comments broadcast on state television.

"The issue of insulting cartoons and remarks of some politicians about Islam are different links in the conspiracy of the crusaders and the pope's remarks are the latest links in this," he added.

What was quoted out of context? He meant to say that islam is an unreasonable and violent religion.

As far as 'whats the connection' between the US and the Pope, the US, in Ahamdinejad's statements, has started a Crusade against islam. The pope, of course, is the original crusader too. So in islamic conspiracy theory, it certainly 'makes sense' that the pope would start attacking islam when america, being the dupe of 'the great satan', launches a crusade against islam.

The jews are thrown in for good measure. Can't have a conspiracy without the jews, now can you?!

Someone needs to remind the Honorable Supreme Leader:

In America, our religious leaders spout BS about 90% of the time (relative to listener)
and the american people largely ignore the careless remarks by our religious extremists...

But in IRAN, they elect them, then follow them, then allow them to restructure eductation, then allow them to cast the entire societys progress back to the middle ages...
all in one fanatic religious stroke...

so it isn't our religious leaders comments that they should worry about...
it is about ignoring the propaganda to find a solution...

Why don't you read the whole of the Pope's speech before accusing him of attacking islam. He was holding a speech at a university, speaking out against using violence to promote your beliefs. Click here to read a PDF document of the Pope's speech, or if you do not have Adobe Reader or another PDF viewing application, click here to read the key excerpts of his speech.
