I was reading Huffingtonpost.com today and caught this little nugget and was wondering if any one else caught this too. It is in the post titled "RNC Distances Itself from Campus Organizer." Also on newsvine.com for the whole story.

RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman stated that Miss Morgan Wilkins actions at the University of Michigan were not condoned nor sanctioned by the RNC. What she did was organize a "Catch the Illegal Immigrant Party" with the help of the local chapter of the College Republicans. That is taste less enough. Now here is where it is disturbing. She also encouraged participants to shoot at cardboard cut outs of leading individuals of the Democratic Party with BB guns and paintball guns.

With those who are in power calling any one who disagrees with them treasanous and un American and enemy sympathizers, things like this only add fuel to the fire for more violent behavior in the future. Naturally, they say that they have no affiliation with any of this. But what if this is just a small step to condition more people to dehumanize the opposition? This fits nicely with the other thread, "Air Force Sec. Says test weapons on American crowds." Encourage violence against those with whom you disagree and then the military to test on our own people? This does sound a little like laying the ground work for a possible total grab for power. I hope not.

I hope not either because, I for one will become an insurgent in my own country....ala "Red Dawn" style.

Edit: At least the RNC is distancing itself from this sort of crap though...that's at least a good sign.

I really can't believe that people like her exist. Reinforces my ideas that the human race has not evolved one step from the days of Adam and Eve.

There will be no total power grab by any party.... even as right-winged as I am, I would not allow a single party full power in the government. even if it was a right-wing party. We are a democracy and every one has a fair say.

and yes it will be "red dawn II" if something like this happened....from both sides of the spectrum

Once those in power can get political ideas to trump basic human decency, very bad things happen. I hate to be cliché, but Nazi Germany and other totalitarian regimes came to mind when I read this.

Freedom of political thought is as basic a human right as freedom of press, religion, meeting, etc... no? When will the partisan hacks realize this?

I only hope that the coming presidential election cycle won't become a partisan blood-bath, but I'm not betting on it.

the republicans already have the congress and the white house and have been working on reducing the power of the courts, so in a sense, they DO have complete control, one party government. when you have the chairman of a comittee in the house (sorry forgot his name, but he is from wisconsin) actually have the microphones of the democrats turned off so as not to debate or protest during a hearing, that is totalerism.

the speaker of the house has stated that he will not "bring any measure to the floor if there was not a majority of the majority party (republicans) in favor of it. the democrats, for our purposes, do not matter and have no bearing on our agenda."

I just have a question. Was the person throwing the party a student or a school employee? No link to the article, and I didn't feel like having to hunt for it. Sorry. The status of the person throwing the party would make a big difference on how I would respond to this type of article.

she was hired by the college republican national comittee to recruit more young republicans. the article on www.newsvine.com also says there have been other such "parties" on other campuses this year as well. she titled the shooting part of the party as "fun with guns."

i am not good with adding links to click on. still a little bit of a new comer to computers.

The hard right has been mobilizing for an armed takeover for as long as I can remember.

Between the constant berating of political opponents as "traitors", the hate rhetoric spewed forth 24/7 on right wing talk radio, the alarmist rhetoric that "liberal elites" are out to destroy the country - well it's not hard to see what's coming.

Listen to some right wing talk radio of read the comments on Free Republic sometime - these people being groomed to kill anyone who opposes them. The rest of us should be ready to defend ourselves.

Note that I'm not talking about traditional conservatives here, but the right-wing fanatics who seem to be an ever-burgeoning movement.

Oh, I had thought it was just a student. In that case I would have said it was in poor taste, but not given it much thought. The fact that it is hired personnel is pretty disturbing. Sounds more like a wacked out skin head or Nazi representative rather than a Republican. Awfully immature - I still have to wonder if maybe it is a young student hired to recruit or if it is an older person. This just sounds like an out of control beer bash, not something a grown adult would do.
