If anyone is interested, there is a thread discussing the differences between the two systems:

US v/s Canadian healthcare systems.. A call to Canadian ATS Members

It's not a long thread, but there is a breakdown of what kind of services we get and a bit of discussion about the system (both the good and the bad).

Every country has it's issues.
Canada is no exception, however, we can safely bask in the knowlege that we have far fewer issues than most other countries.

Basically, it doesnt matter what country you go to, you will find problems with it. Why? Because you cant please everyone. There will always be something that alot of the people don't like.

Next time you have something you dislike, do what I do. Take a moment, stand back from it, and imagine what other problems would exist if indeed you had that problem solved your way.
Chances are, if you don't muck it up with a load of bias, you will realise that the problem exists because it is actually the least harmful solution to another problem.

If after that, you still find a problem, then you have the answer to it... then and only then, do something about it.

If all you want is to find a cause to get angry about, and haven't actually got a reason to be angry... then get the hell out. I have no sympathy for people who waste our time with causes that are in fact just grabs of attention.

So what happened did the greedy wannabe Canadian? I"AM CANADIAN and it breaks my freakin heart when I hear ignorence like this. I hear ya that now that Alberta has its oil its raking in the doe! But last time I checked they were not so well off before? am I wrong? I have lived in B.C. and I now live in Ontario. I work 60 hours a week and pay "one h-e- double hockey sticks" amount of money in taxes. But I am also have had to go to the hospital before and I'm pretty sure I didn't get a bill. I also wake up every morning not looking up to see bombs over head. Nobody forces me to do anything. I live in a fantastic Country with great people and I'm sorry if I offend you but I also respect all cultures Canada has to offer.
I'm sorry if you want to be in a "ME" society.... but that is not here and all I have to be thankful for is that narrow minded self obsessed people like your self do go somewere else were "The rich get richer and screw everyone else.

WE ALL PAY TAXES BUD DEAL OR MOVE. But don't just move for a couple of months a year please stay there and let your money buy you all the happienss in the world!

WE ARE CANADA not becasue of Alberta or B.C. or Ontario or even Quebec... We are Canada because of all of us combined......

MODS I'm sorry for the name calling its not my style but there are so many issues in the world this guys wallet and ideals are very low on anyone priority list!

Why Canada Sucks?

Lets think about this one.

Have you ever had Cancer? How about a close family member? Well I have. And thanks to this horrible country I am not in debt up to six figures. The only cost to our family was the gas to and from the hospital.

I know someone who lives in Canada that lost someone to cancer because it took them so long to get in to see a doctor! Yes, wonderful health system you guys have up there.

And what about all those people paying all those taxes that never go to the doctor? Why should they have to pay for you?
I'm sorry for your cancer situation, that sucks. But it shouldn't be manditory for everyone to pay for your healthcare.

It's not mandatory, Leave!

It was merely luck how my family member was diagnosed with cancer. He went in for a check up, something he never did, and was advised for a follow up. The next day it went from a follow up to full of cancer.

Two days later he was under the knife, released from hospital about two weeks after that.

Money well Spent!

My sincerest regrets on the loss of life. However, that is not enough to say the system does not work. The fact is, our system is flawed and we have openly admitted to it. But at the same time it does help millions on a daily basis. It's not perfect but it does work.

I could never repay what our health care has done for my family.

Even after the death of my close family member, I walked over to the doctor with tears streaming from my eyes and shook their hands. I had to thank them for their efforts and honesty.

The system works, noone will tell me different.

edit:

closettrekkie, I have just noticed your not even Canadian. How can you judge something you don't know? My hard earned tax dollars, just like everyone elses, goes towards a great cause which may of saved a life today that may of otherwise been lost.

How does that family feel today? I'd say pretty good.

I hope that bit of change in your pocket feels good, because at some point that could of been someone elses live that would of been saved. Possibly someone you know.

I have no real complaints about Canada. Yet anyway, I'm a young guy. I still pay taxes , and dont mind. Certain board members have already expressed how I feel, and i'm glad lots of other canadians are on the right track here. Canada is pretty good, its got its problems, but its still pretty good. My mom had cancer, shes cured, didnt cost us anything to my knowledge, my grandparents get the care they need etc. I'm glad I pay the taxes I do.

Envy is a strong word, applicable here though. We have our firearms(no difference to the US there), a better health care system, call it socialistic all you want, works better than most. We DO have the PC BS though. That's about the only downside I can see.

I'm willing to go "Head to Head" with ANYONE on the differences between Canada and the US, UK, China, almost anyone else except Scandinavian countries. Imo, they've got it right.
