Top U.S. general says Pakistan not conspiring with Taliban

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A U.S.-led coalition air strike in southern Afghanistan killed a Taliban commander and 15 other militants as a top U.S. general said insurgents are still using neighbouring Pakistan as base for infiltration - but Pakistan is not colluding with them.
Abizaid said he "absolutely does not believe" accusations of collusion between Pakistan's government and the resurgent Taliban rebels or other extremists.

That's a pretty dumb statement from a top US General.
Is he not aware of the Pak Intelligence agency known as the ISI? (Inter Services Intelligence). It's a state within a state. A huge rogue agency covertly supported by elements within the Government.
A majority of those on the rolls of the ISI, actively support militant groups like the JEM, Lashkar-e-Toiba and the Taliban. In fact their strategies are planned by the ISI. They support them by providing them arms and ammunition on a huge scale and plan their next strike, whether in India or Afghanistan.
Most terror activity around the globe emanates from Pakistan. There's always some connection. Pakistan could be termed as someone said, 'the fountain head of terror'.
And it's the ISI to blame.
How and what do I know about all this? Well, I've 15 years of experience in counter insurgency and spec ops against these terror groups being nurtured by Pakistan.

Pakistan basically created the Taliban with all the money that we gave them during the Soviet occupation. Pakistan and the ISI were basically our proxy, we wrote the checks, they cashed them. Pakistan (along with the Saudi's) and the ISI had their own agenda and it didn't jive with ours. But Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton, and to an extent Bush Jr. chose to ignore or overlook that.
Abizaid is obviously ignorant of history or is just spouting the Party line. Probably the latter.
Steven Coll's book "Ghost Wars", details the Soviet invasion, occupation and retreat, the CIA, the mujahadeen, the rise of the Taliban, up until Sept 10, 2001.
A real good read.
