Here is one example from the Houston Chronicle showing the misreporting of the North Korea missile capability and threat.

www.chron.com...

The Chronicle was not an exception as it was misreported in many major media outlets. The reporting would have one believe that the latest North Korean long range missile called the "Taepodong-2" is capable of striking the US...or the west coast anyways.

It turns out their estimated range seems to have been a bit exaggerated. Apparently the Taepodong-2 is not capable of hitting California, although it might be able to reach Hawaii. Of course Kim Jong-il is always willing to let some of his citizens starve to death and pump money into more missile research... leaving many to speculate that the Taepodong-3 is already in the works and it would be capable of reaching the continental USA.

Typical. With reports that it might be able to hit Hawaii, and with Hawaii being one of the states, eh why not take that and just run with it. What say ye boss/editor?

Extree-Extree Read all about it. "North Korean Missile Capable of Striking the US"

Who cares about accurate and factual reporting anymore? If it sells papers, increases subscriptions and/or garners public attention then it's NEWZzzzz, no?

Surprising? No. Effective? Obviously. Pathetic? Yea.

[edit: to add & sp?]

Inappropriate forum, though.

The fact is, no one knows for sure what the maximum range of the missile is. Some believe it could reach as far as California, others, Alaska and Hawaii. The unfortunate thing about the failed missile test on July 4 is that we don't know the potential of the missile. We know they are trying but failed.
