Type 022 Fast Attack Missile Craft

just spotted some pictures of this fac here and apart from a small amount of info.

No detailed information on the Type 022 missile FAC is available at the moment. From Internet source photo it can be seen that the ship features two large complexes at the stern, which are believed to be the anti-ship missile launchers. It is not known what type of missile the vessel is carrying. On the front deck locates a Russian AK-630 30mm close-in weapon system (CIWS) for short-range air defence. The craft has a single large mask on which a number of unidentified sensors are mounted. A single datalink antenna is located between the two missile complexes, indicating the vessel has the capability to receive target information from other surface or airborne sensors.

it doesn't say much about the ship, i was wondering if anyone had any more info about it? engines, speed ect.

Sinodefence is probably the most reliable site for this type of info, they are much more discerning and reserved than some of the more pro-China forums out there.

But several observations about the "022" class:

Type: Fast attack craft missile
Speed: Probably quite fast but no reason to assume it's much faster than monohull FACs. It's based on Australian wave-piecing catamaran hull, the same as on many civilian ferries. These ferries typically have a top speed of between 38-45kts. The "022" might be a touch faster but nothing remarkable.

Weapons: The twin boxes at the rear clearly carry 8 anti-ship missiles - 4 in each bin. There is speculation about which missile is carried but my guess is the YJ-83 missile, although the more capable (but bigger) YJ-62 also fits. Theoretically the SS-N-22 Sunburn (aka Moskit) also fits (only one per bin) but this seems unlikely.

Stealth: Yes definately a 'true' stealth warship, much more stealthy than most larger "stealth" warships such as the Israeli Saar-5 and French La Fayette design. Even the bridge windows show clear signs of stealth design which wouldn't make sense unless it truly achieved a high level of radar stealth.

One thing I noticed is the modifed Ak-630 with added stealth features.

The picture below provides a comparison. The red square shows a sensor which is found on chinese UAVs and a similar one is fitted to chinas Type-730 CWIS which indicates this may be a improved version
