Oddly enough, most of those who are called "on the right" are actually right smack dab in the middle. One only has to look at the county-by-county vote map of the last two elections.

Oddly enough, I have yet to encounter a single foaming at the mouth fanatic of any stripe that isn't convinced that they represent the true mainstream.

Why this is, I can't say, but it's held true consistently, with the exception of a few dilletante anarchists who adopt radical politics as a "look at me" fashion statement.
