Hey everybody, i'm thinking about getting a 360 next month or so, but here's a few questions.

1. I heard that they burn out really fast.
2. I have a TV with two plugs in the front, audio and video labeled. Will the 360 hook to that?
3. Is Dead Rising any good?

1) They don't They work well, the first generation early on had overheating problems, but any new ones you get now are fixed. ANd if you do have a problem, microsoft gives you a new one, no charge.

2) Yeah.

3) Dead Rising is fun. Infact, almost every game on the 360 so far are pretty good. And theres a huge lineup of awesome games coming out by december.

Funny thing is, I used to be a PS2 fanboy, then i got an X-box because i really wanted to play Fable. Fable was overshadowed in two hours by Halo 2.

Now i don't even play my PS2 anymore, lol

I'm not a fanboy of anything. I have everysystem (well I did untill my ps2 broke...three times.)

What I'm not a fan of is Sony. Not the system ,the company.

People talk about Microsoft, but Sony, from the start, has been an entity solely made by stealing other peoples work, and cutting costs and corners.

Did you know that they willingly used inferior plastic for the lens trays in the drive? Knowing that in a few years when the games use more of the trays they will break down. They cut the corners on the cost and made peoples ps2s break, then charge them for repairs. They would've continued to do it untill they had a lawsuit about it.

After my PS2 broke, I started playing my x-box, and I was really amazed on how well it was made. It was strong, it played great, microsofts tech support is responsive and reliable, and even aspects of the system were made with care and conscience of frequent issues.

I mean what other system spent the money to made break away cords?

There was a few teething probs with 360's overheating and the disks getting scratched rendering the games unplayable, but that was only if you moved the machine while the disk was spinning. Besides, you can hack the 360 now to play backups so scratched disks are a non issue now

What waht WHAAAAT?!?! I knew you could do that on the old system, you sure its poss on the 360? I mean without the 50/50 chance of turning it into a brick?

The ONLY time your disc will be scratched is if you move it from the horizontal flat position and move it to a vertical standing position....WHILE the disc is being read.

Thats not unusual for any disc reader to do that. And honestly, anybody who decides to move any electronic reading device randomly while its being read needs to get a brain cell count.

Dust is a major problem in my room and house, how do i keep my soon-to-be-bought X-box 360 dust-free?

I flashed my 360 on friday and I have all my disks tucked away out of harms way and I am currently playing Oblivion, Table Tennis, GRAW, PGR3 and Fight Night from backed up copies, you can go on Live too but Microsoft may be scanning hardware and taking notes of who is using Hacked Firmware for a ban at a later date, but there's a New Stealth Hack that makes hacked 360 undetectable.

There is a chance of bricking your 360 if you are extremely careless and don't read the Tutorials. All you need is a basic knowledge of computers, some torx keys. a SATA motherboard and some Coffee

Here's a link to the Xbox Hacking
Forums, whatever you do do not chat about Warez as you'll get an instaban.

Get a small display cabinet or box shelf and put it in there and just clean it regularly.

Im not extremely computer savvy, but a friend of mine is a tech. He should be able to help me out.

I hear that 360 is pretty solid, though still faring poorly in Japan. I plan on getting the Wii first, and then 360 when the price is down below 300 bucks CND. I still think the Wii is gonna kick ass, just as the DS Lite is kicking the PSPs ass right now.
I believe the ratio is something like 3 DS Lites to 1 PSP being sold every minute or something insane like that(I just got a DS Lite and am loving it!).

The reason why I'm getting the Wii is because I want to be able to play RTS and FPS on the console and the Wii-mote is looking like the perfect Console replacement for the good ole mouse and keyboard(Free Ad Hoc wireless gaming as seen on the DS Lite is also another major reason why I'm getting this first).

The reason why I'm getting the 360 is because they seem like they are gonna win the N. American console sweepstakes(I don't think they will take it worldwide though, that battle will be fought between the big N and Sony methinks, with a significant edge for Nintendo due to a variety of reasons).

What am i supposed to do about the dust issue, then?

btw, I just got dead rising last week. It is totally worth the money. I spent over an hour just running zombies over with the mower in the mall courtyard. If you do get a 360, get this one.
And stay away from pgr3. A lot of people seem to like it, but IMO, its total crap.

Must Buy Games for the 360

# 1: Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.

Simply one of the best games on the 360, if not THE best game of the year. You'll never stop having fun in it, even if your not an RPG fan.

# 2: Dead Rising

Again, lots of fun, tons of replay value.

# 3: Saints Row

If you liked GTA, its like GTA, but to a more realistic extreme. Very fun, awesome physics, good story, and alot of customizability. Pimp your ride.

Coming soon to Must Buy

Gears of War
Amazing graphics. Awesome duck and cover gameplay. And reptillian overlords...whats not to love?

Mass Effect

RPG from Bioware (makers of Jade empire and Knights of the Old Republic) where you travel the stars.

Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway

Squad based WWII combat with an amazing story, total immersion, and photo realistically reconstructed locations (meaning in a map in germany, what you see is actually what was there at the time, or may still be there.)

Alan Wake

Crazy free roam story-driven gameplay about a writer who goes to a small, silent town to try to get out of his insomnia. When he does go to sleep, his stories start to become real. Travel all throughout the town at day, trying to find out whats going on, while racing for the light at night as your own creations come to haunt you.

Rainbow Six: Vegas

Amazing looking rainbow six game.

Also look forward to...

Test Drive Unlimited

Forza Motorsport 2

Saints Row

Oblivion was awesome.

other cool things
You can burn your own music onto the hard drive and play it continuously through ANY game. You can stream music and video between your PC and your XBOX360. You can download demos of upcoming games from XBOX LIVE Marketplace. Which also offers additional content for games you own. Theres also an XBOX LIVE ARCADE which has great games like Pac-man, Joust, Gauntlet, UNO, and many others.

a couple things that are not so good

1.)The headsets are cheap as hell. best to stock up on two or three sets. They break very easily. Also best to have a corded controller AND a wireless. Unless you dont care about the wireless thing(like me).
2.)get a good cd lens cleaner. The lens seems to be very finicky in EVERYONES XBOX that I have talked to.. youll often get the "Insert Xbox cd in drive" message.. White screen.. pain in the arse

3.)Content costs money- Of course theres the costs. If there is one thing that Xbox IS exceedingly good at; its milking you out of every penny for every thing they can. Its a hobby that is getting more expensive by the day.. so bring your CC...lol

and thats about it for my $.02
have a great day,
tone

If you are not able to get high speed you might want to re think getting the system. IMO
Xbox Live is like half the system.. without it its just not worth 300+ for a console. Just my opinion though.

Also you mentioned streaming vid/audio....I dont think thats possible without the media center edition of windows, is it?

I tried to do it a few months ago when I first got the system, and couldnt do it. I could connect usb devices though. I got my psp connected to it once, just for fun.
