Why Hasn't the US Targeted Cuba as Yet??

Cuba is the only little country left in that part of the hemisphere that's been left 'untouched' by the US of A. Iraq, Iran. Afghanistan. Syria, Lebanon, Nort Korea - you name it - are all bad boys in the American scheme of things where US policy has run rough shod over. But how about Cuba?

The moot question is, why isn't America trying to enforce its brand of democracy at its own doorstep?

As numerous interventions have demonstrated, the engine of American foreign policy has been fueled, not by a devotion to democracy, but rather by the desire to:

1)make the world safe for American transnational corporations;

2)enhance the financial statements of defense contractors at home;

3)prevent the rise of any society that might serve as a successful example of an
alternative to the capitalist model;

4)extend political and economic hegemony over as wide an area as possible, as befits a "great power";

5)fight a moral crusade against what cold warriors convinced
themselves, and the American people, was the existence of an evil
International Communist Conspiracy.

So what's the game here? With a non existant counter balance which was the erstwhile Soviet Union, what is holding the US back?

Why should America, or any other country for that matter, enforce there brand of 'Democracy' on Cuba? What gives them the right to tell other countries how they should be run or live? If the citizens of that country ask for help then by all means help them, but i don't agree with the 'You should all be run like us' mentality.

Another option could be that there is nothing there really that is of use to America. There isn't much or any oil that i am aware of, nor any valuable resources that they couldn't get now. Also maybe it would destabilise South America if they did.

Just a idea.

Several false reports indicated America was about to move on to Cuba.

It's not strategically important, though, in defense. It's a little too close to not be monitored. Plus, not many of its citizens are interested in Political regimes. They just want to live, and get through life.

Well, the boycotts that have imposed for the past 50 years have taken their toll, so we haven't exactly been hands - off. As far as value, Cuba before Castro was the playground of the Carribean; great tourist trade.

After Castro is gone, expect Chavez to try to impose his own form of gov't on the island.

Well, for one, Cuba is not on the same hemisphere as those other nations.

We did try to take back Cuba at one point.
You may remember Bay of Pigs, and attempts to assassinate Castro.

They are waiting for castro to die so they can help create a democracy there. The U.S. has already said they will provide aid for a democratic movement in Cuba.
