I have heard severaly reports about how the US is just making up stuff in Iraq, ie. Troops not really getting hurt as bad as they really are, Saddam being alive or dead.

Anywho, I guess what I am getting at, or trying to get at, is that if the US could fake going to the moon. Then they could very well fake any and all Saddam video tapes and just give them a reason to continue "intrests" in Iraq.

I am a huge supporter of the US government, but sometimes they seem really shady and I don't know what to think. If someone could possibly give me some examples of this ever happening before, or maybe point me in the right direction for my research it would be greatly appreciated. I am working on a newspaper article for my school and the kids here are all swept up into politics right now.

Why would the U.S. want to falsify a war? It would be pretty expensive to do that.

If they fake the moon landing, although they didn't, I can understand that. U.S. wanted to get ahead of Russia.

But why fake the war?

In a way the American's and the rest of the world(in some capacity) was mislead in to war with Iraq.. so I think that would qualify. As for reasons in this particular case.. there could be dozens :/

that was what I was getting at...is it possible for any government to misinform a public that is so well connected to the internet and to sites like this. Because the US did that with the war in Iraq. It was good that we got Saddam out of there, but the fact that we went in on false pretenses leads me to believe a sort of "Wag the Dog" type thing happened here.

If the US government seems shady to you and you are confused as to what to believe...why would you be a huge supporter of such a government?

I support the programs they run and what they stand for (in the sense of democracy) but not they way that they sometimes carry it out. Just like how i like certain companys, I support Microsoft all the way, but they way they do some of their stuff is a little questionable.

thats what i ment by that, hope that clears it up

I agree, why fake a war? Our government would have to be even stupider than we give them credit for, look at all the political backlash around the world we're getting. Of course most places officially endorse the war, but how much monetary and troop support are we getting?

well lets see.. fear. In the sense that Sadam had chemical weapons in some capacity. Nuclear weapons was also another reason. He may or may not have nuclear weapons.. or rather weapons of mass distruction. MMmm..the possibility that Sadam was going to or have traded/sold these "weapons of mass destruction". Just a few know reasons.. did Sadam actually create weapons of mass destruction. Well we found some evidence, but nothing like a missle or vile of something.

edit: we found illegal missles burried in the desert, but that was no where near what was expressed to the public as to why we went to war

The Movie Primary Colors with John Travolta playing a Clinton like character depicted a *pretend* war as a distraction for the Presidents scandolous affairs and goings on. The movie is very believable.
My answer is yes. Hollywood can be a big presense in DC.
I think that if they wanted to for whatever coverup someone is working on they could get Steven speilberg to produce it. And we the people are driven by tv and the news and thats what we beleive to be true.
I dont think that is the case in Iraq

I think you may be talking about "Wag the dog" with Dustin hoffman...or it could be primary colors, but I was sure that Primary colors was just about the campaign to become president, Hence the name "Primary" colors

Trust me here guys...the war is real and getting dangerously out of control!

Got the scars and shrapnel pieces to prove it!

Heh heh. Anybody here ever seen Canadian Bacon? It's all about the US government faking a war with the Canadians and claiming that Canucks have committed aggressive acts in order to boost their own economy. John Candy is quite hilarious in it.

maybe we should just talk about the movies that are about war conspiracys instead of trying to help me and others understand why a government would try to do this!

Seriously, lets try to stay on topic. I do enjoy a little sidetracking, but I also would like to have some info.

Yeah, sorry about that. I imagine it's pretty easy to fake a war. The makeup artists in Hollywood could make almost anyone look like bin Laden or Hussein if the price was right. Hell, they could make it look like Hitler was still alive. So where's the proof that the government isn't staging these wars? The government should have to prove that their actually is a real war when they say there is, otherwise they might be sending the tax money that's supposedly being spent on their wars to a far more despicable cause.

as far as the Iraq war goes, there was alot of news coverage by several channels...hell even FOX was there, and you know FOX doesn't kid around.

Perhaps a future war may be faked, as in, we don't really kill OBL but we make it look like we did.
