Hi,

I am just curious if anyone has heard about the FBI or other government agencies being able to do surveillance via our television sets? I have believed this since 1984, but everyone thinks I am just paranoid!! I just had a feeling and some dreams that this is or will be possible. I know all televisions are supposed to change over to 100% digital in the near future, making all other televisions obsolete. Why is this? We have no idea WHAT is in our tv's, and we have them in almost every room and on 24/7!! Even in our cars now! Also, we are told NOT to open them for danger of toxic fumes or explosion!! It this just BS, or is there something more they don't want us to see? Why do new age books recommend the tv be unplugged when not in use and to limit our time watching tv. Any thoughts, links or info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello there, while I cant answer all your questions, I can give you some info I know about this. you are correct that all televisions must be digital, and if I'm not mistaken, the federal deadline for this is 2008. The reason behind this is that currently, television channels broadcast their signal over a certain spectrum. Just for example, I'll say the spectrum looks like a rainbow. In this rainbow, picture the color red to be 3 times as wide as every other color. Currently TV broadcasts are using the red color section. With digital technology, the signal that is broadcast out can now be compressed to fit onto any other color of the rainbow. What the plan is to switch over TV broadcasts to one of these other colors, which in turn would free up the very large red color section. Since TV Stations arent charged to broadcast signals out, the government wants these free broadcasts to be on one of the smaller colors, so they can now sell out parts of the larger red color for such things as cell phone transmissions, satellite transmissions and whatever ever else they can make money off of, since they arent making money off of it now. I hope this was more helpful than confusing. As far as tv's watching us...I dont know. I personally doubt it, but then again I guess anything is possible!

I used to work for a T.V repair/rental firm and there are no cameras inside the t.v.s m8.so no reason to be so paranoid (and stop wearing red it isnt your colour
)

As pointed out previously, no cameras inside of TV sets. But you might want to disconnect your Webcam when it is not in use, if you have one. And possibly any microphone attached to your computer. In order for "Big Brother" to spy on you via any device that you own, they will need an input device.

But that is only my thoughts on this matter. No hard evidence to substantiate it.

2 cents.

This is kind of similiar to something that has been playing on my mind, if, and only IF "they" aim to enslave humanity in internment camps, to prevent possible riot or revolution after the so called New World Order takes over, wouldn't it be useful for "them" to deafen us all?

We can still toil and do their bidding just as effectively and it would easily prevent uprising.

How would this be achieved? Well, what if the common speaker could emmit such a piercing frequency that would instantly shatter your eardrum?

The common speaker on your stereo, television, building announcement system, or even in your car?

Pretty scary thought no?

Maybe not watching directly via camera or audio and nuthin' 2 fancy in regular old CRT TV's 'cept maybe 25,000+ volts or so - don't go poking around to be safe.

This is a slight over-generalization but many cable providers can discern what is on our TV's - not exactly what each of us watches so much but they know "X" number of addresses are pulling down show "X".

They, whoever "they" are do control our selection menu though; some would argue they control what we are exposed to - powerful "tool" that. Pick your stimuli - kinda dim-sum with a limited menu. They're the chefs... us? We can choose to not to "eat" there or to pigout.

We got some newish TV over IP stuff that we subscribe to at the office... now that is 100% logged. Whether anyone uses the log DB is another question - but they easily could. BTW TV over IP is very, very good quality visually and the audio is as good as the sound system...

There's a great song, old, but great, about TV by The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy called Television The Drug Of The Nation... give a listen sometime.

Nowadays I find myself monitoring 4, sometimes 5 data sources at a time and you know I almost don't watch tele anymore - it's just too painful, too empty and frankly not what it was even a decade ago. I can't believe people actually pay to watch such stuff. There are some things I do enjoy on the Tube but, sports, news and what passes for entertainment are not well done by most. Some investigative and docs and educational stuff is good but a rarity.

I like the net cuz I can hunt down what I need - like now if not sooner. Coms, audio, video, text, news, plus, plus, plus; most stuff is there if you poke the correct stacks and visit quality sites like ATS.

Thanx,

Victor K.

Long answer "Yes with an If"
Short answer "No with a But"

Seriously though, i think that unless you have specifically said or done something that isn't legal or is very wrong, you are bieng paranoid.

Actually it is very possible to watch people via their TV without a hidden camera inside. About 8 or ten years ago I saw a demonstration of some apparatus by which the electrons which are sucked into the tube and those which are reflected back are used to form a rudimentary picture of what is in the room that the TV set resides. I am no expert in the way telivision works but I know that what I was watching (this demonstration was on a science based TV program). During the test a guy was in a van with a TV set and a aerial of some kind - he first of all was able to view the channel the tv in the house was tuned into and then he operated some electrical equipment and a picture appeared of the family in the house watching the TV.
The things I remember clearly about this demonstration were
That this was definately not a hoax and the pictures clearly showed people moving about. The pictures at that time were not very clear but nonetheless it was the TV set being used as a camera by using the electrons flowing into or out of the box
as the electrons were slower to pass through objects thatn thin air.
The other fact is that they said the government was highly interested in developing the technology

Excerpt from the book "1984" by George Orwell- Pg. 2

Behind Winston's back the voice from the telescreen was still babbling away about pig iron and the overfulfillment of the Ninth Three-Year Plan. The telescreen received and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound that Winston made, above the level of a low whisper, would be picked up by it.; moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guess work. It was even more concievable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in to your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live- did live, from habit that became instinct--in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every move scrutinized.
Winston kept his back to the telescreen. It was safer; though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing...

Takes the fun right outta' porn

But seriously, in this age of "Total Information Awareness", where we become more of a surveilance-society by the year, and technological advancements increase at an amazingly exponetial rate, this scenerio seems almost inevitable on our present course.

Do such technology exist today- Probably. Is it possible that elements within the Government would abuse such technologies- No doubt. Is such a program going on as we speak- I highly doubt it (atleast not on a massive scale).

I believe such a program wouldn't begin (if ever) until they had first set up cameras on every street corner, every place of business, all public transporta. . . wait a minute, almost all those places already have cameras monitoring them. Ahh well, look on the brightside, "We're gonna be on TV".

I dont think you are paranoid, just for the simple fact that where there is a way in there is a way out. It might not be trough cameras but maybe somhow. There is so much stuff that we dont know that sometimes our imagination and dreams are our only way trough the truth.
Personally I believe that TV enslaves you, meaning is not that they watch you personally, but tv "hypnotize you" in a way with information about society, patterns etc... so they know how you behave. Imagine if you have a tv, is possible to know what kind of programs you watch? they make a rpofile, and then they send you commercials on thos tv shows that you watch, and you might think: Damn!~!!!! how did they now!!?? but it, according to my wildest dreams, it is all like if it was a program, a forever ongoing program. you are the creator but "they" know you your code and language of operation, therefore they can overwirte your progam hence control you and make you feel like you are being watch.

or sometimes they just want to make you smile. Remember that therese all kinds of people out there, some might intend good, some might be little cerebros trying to dominate the world.

Any speaker can work as a microphone. Your phone's microphone works even when the receiver is on the hook. If you have a cable connection two way communication is possible.

None of this means you are being spied on, but almost everyone in the free world has the hardware already installed.
