In Einstein's general theory of relativity, both matter and energy can create a gravitational field. This means that the energy of a light beam can produce a gravitational field. My current research considers both the weak and strong gravitational fields produced by a single continuously circulating unidirectional beam of light. In the weak gravitational field of a unidirectional ring laser, it is predicted that a spinning neutral particle, when placed in the ring, is dragged around by the resulting gravitational field. [R. L. Mallett, "Weak gravitational field of the electromagnetic radiation in a ring laser"

I think this sounds good, but is it achievable ...on our lifetime... Humm

Well, Mallet has been at this for quite some time. No results yet. It's not as if he just started.

Could be promising, but I started watching him over a year ago. Seems to me that, given that his experimental apparatus does not require a boatload of money to operate, he should have had some results by now, any results.

I quit watching him sometime back.

Here's his webpage at UConn:
www.physics.uconn.edu....

You might check in on him every now and then there. Let us know if he ever makes a new announcement.

first time I heard about him was on 60" a few weeks ago, I instantly liked his idea, it seems plausible under einsteins ideas...
The problem is how is he going to put the concept in practic

ocurred to me that with one circular plasma tube (like those fluorescent circular lamps) with the plasma state being induced on the inside gas by microwave frequencies it would be possible to speed up the plasma and consequently the light emanating from it using a circular maglev type electromagnectic field....the magnectic field would have to move at the speed of light...

did you understood anithing of this? I know my english is a bit confusing

Fred,

I understand you, yes, but I don't think that what you describe is what Mallet is up to.
Here's some more links I've collected in the past:

Getting in a Twist over Time
Note the date there - May 2001.

Article on Mallet from the former Fairfield Weekly
More about Mallet than about his apparatus.

Also:
Abstract from a scientific paper on this subject
The above disagrees with Mallet's idea. It's only an abstract, but there's a link to download the .pdf file of the article, if you want to get deep.

Thanks for the links
