What was the year?

There was a year, where un-ordinary things were happening around, and Americans believed it was the end of the world. Weather was bad, and things were flying out of the sky at some states.

Anyone remember the year Americans panic'd?

I know it was some time back, before the 90's, just not sure when.

there was a UFO flap over the DC area & the Capitol
there was the Korean War
there was a scientific(almost) consensus that the world was entering another Ice Age
there was D W Eisenhower (a ret. General) elected president

........all this was happening in 1952 ...................

leading up to 1952, the roswell. NM ufo crash (occurred in '47)
and the Soviets exploded their Atom Bomb (in '49)
and soon to build a Hydrogen (fusion) bomb &
the Cold War was begun in this general timeframe...
.........so maybe your thinking of '52 ???
