As of 8 a.m. PDT on July 23 (1500 UTC), Hurricane Daniel was located near 14.9°N, 135.7°W. It had maximum sustained winds of 135 mph (215 km/h), with higher gusts. The storm was moving toward the west-northwest at about 14 mph (22 km/h). The minimum central pressure was 948 mbar (27.99 inHg). The storm is now forecast to continue westward and gradually weaken over the next five days as wind shear increases and it moves over cooler waters.
