Mystery stone

A odd-looking, egg-shaped stone found in 1872 but no one knows who made it, why, how or when it was made..

I go to Laconia twicw a year and stay on Lake Winnipesaukee. I think in a couple of weeks I will stop by the museum to see it. Below is the website.

Seem's to me that after reading the article about the object, that it was more than likely from a tribe from the past, but may possibly still exist today.
maybe we have some "Native American Historian's" here on AST to better your question for an answer, but fromthe statement's of where it was found how it was found(Too bad they didn't log the find better,ie. How deep in the soil, how far from the lake or river?. ) as stated in the article.
