Hezbollah an army of paid mercenaries?

On a talk radio show this morning I heard that Hezbollah is actually a trained,
paid mercenary army inserted into Lebanon to draw Isreal into a war to
take the spotlight off Irans nuclear situation. Also they said Iran is behind
Hezbollah and it is like a shell game in the middle east figuring out
who is behind what. If this is true this could be much bigger than Isreal
and Lebanon. Anyone have any other information on this?

Here is an article that explains some of hezbollah's structure and actually
threatens US interests as well as Israel. They say they are just waiting for
their supreme leader to give them the go ahead to launch more attacks.

I think everyone agrees that Iran supports Hezbollah, and that Syria also supports them. Syria had troops in lebanon for a long time and certainly had contacts with them.

But, lets not forget, hezbollah is made up of lebanese citizens, inside of lebanon. It has outside support, but it started because of israeli occupation of parts of lebanon, as a resistance group. Hezbollah is part of the lebanese government, and seems to have good public support.

So then, Iran and Syria are supplying weapons and money for Hezbollah
to attack Isreal, and now they also threaten US interests in other
parts of the world. Is the Lebanese government behind those actions also?

well there are two representatives of Hezbollah, sitting within the cabinet (executive) of the Lebanese government.

They just want the U.S. to start something ... again ... If the U.S. does get involved then it will get messy. They have been building them up for so long to be this radical off the wall culture that has no respect for anyones rights ... Which isn't at all true .. Per Se .. We have never gotten into a war without someone else pushing us in that direction.

I think your talk show had an agenda and was painting a sinister picture of Hezbollah.

Nygdan has it closer to reality. the 'army' called hezbollah is homegrown & grassroots popular...since they're not Lebanoneese government sanctioned, the Militia gets support, funds, ordinance, arms & all the things that make any army a viable organization for self defense...from sponsors etc...including the Persians in Iran and the Arabs in Syria.

If the Russians had any desire or say-so in 1982 when hezbollah grew into existence, they too probably contributed to their support.
If you want, go to wikipedia & look up hezbollah instead of getting info thats
basically slanted to the writers/speakers viewpoint (like me & other replies)

FYI, lets say hezbollah is mercenary,,,then whats IDF but forced conscripts, the Israelis are forced into mandantory service, whereas hezbollah is made of people that made a decision to join (and should rightly expect pay...not mercenary tribute)
