The problem with the direct vote count machines is that there are many undetectable methods of perpetrating fraud. Minor changes to the equipment
and policies could guarantee detection of fraud.
First of all, these machines have no audit trail. They need some sort of write-once recording device that records the same data as recorded on the
voting machine. For example, if the machine uses a touch screen, the audit log should record a timestamp, and each individual location touched on the
screen.
Before the polls open, Local officials should do a calibration vote that would log a special record to the recorder. This should be verified
independently
This would provide the means of independent accountability
