A Small Kindness

I started at the story's end. Like a true investigator, I followed the clues and tracked the story back to its primeval origins. Which part of the story was most important? Was it the beginning? The middle? The end? I don't know. It all could have fallen apart at any time. Anyone could have broken the thread. Anything could have happened to redirect the flow. I only know the story started with a single small act of kindness, an apparently insignificant thing. But in the end, it changed the world, and altered the course of history.

Who could know that such things can happen?
