Here is an article that is about as objective as any that I've seen that cover the released information surrounding Lay's reported death. It includes the fact that there is some suspicion that it is pretty darn fishy that he just happened to die before going to prison. And hence, there is some reason for doubt that his death may have been faked. However there does not seem to be any hard evidence that would lead to any real investigation.

Lay - free on $5 million bond that allowed him to stay in either Houston or Colorado while awaiting sentencing - was on a week's vacation in the posh Aspen resort area when sheriff's deputies and the local ambulance corps received a "medical emergency" call at 3:41 a.m. Eastern time.

They rushed to a house in Old Snowmass and transported Lay to Aspen Valley Hospital. He was pronounced dead there at 5:11 a.m., said Joe DiSalvo, investigations director for the Pitkin County Sheriff's Office.

An autopsy performed by the Mesa County coroner showed he had died of heart disease.

The coroner, Dr. Robert Kurtzman, said the autopsy also revealed that Lay had suffered a heart attack in the past.

Whether Lay is dead or not we will probably never know. If the media can manage to create enough confusion to cause over half of all Americans to doubt that we have an extremely serious problem with abnormal and unnatural global warming, then covering up whether Lay is still alive or not should be a piece of cake.

What is really outrageous is that Lay's death, whether real or faked, is going to be used by Skilling's defense to go back to trial and get a reversal of the charges against him. Now there is a real masterpiece of a non-sequitur if ever there was one. Check my first supporting link to follow up on that. (-Ev)

An news.bbc.co.uk..." target="_blank" class="postlink">Enron wtness was found dead in a park.

Is this a coincidence or is it that the powers that be are cleaning up the lose ends in the enron scandal?

It sure would be interesting to have the resources necessary to follow the money.

Also of note is that Lays death would wipe lay's conviction and obstruct the governments case to grab is assets.

I just saw this on CNN: Saudi Prince Bandar (also known as "Bandar Bush") just put his Colorado home, worth $132 million, on sale.

Here's the link:edition.cnn.com...

Seems like everyone is clearing out of CO.

My mom, our family's most serious conspiracy theorist, thinks that maybe he took ol' Kenny-boy with him back home.

I disagree with her because it seems far more likely that Lay would just disappear, alone, with his money...maybe to an island where people wouldn't recognize him.

But, the story is still interesting.

Oh, and let's not forget Colin Powell's "altitude sickness," which also took place in Aspen. Coincidentally, he was taken to the same hospital that pronounced Lay dead. Powell was there attending a conference of some sort from July 3-9 (called the 'Aspen Ideas Festival'. Among his fellow presenters were Karl Rove, Madeleine Albright, Kenneth Adelman, and several Middle Eastern ambassadors, just to name a few.

I submit to my fellow conspiracists a simple timeline. It's not complete, and it took me a while to do. Maybe we can add on to it as we figure out more stuff.

July 3: Day 1 of conference
July 4: Day 2 of conference; American Independence Day
July 5: Day 3 of conference; Ken Lay, allegedly, dies; historically, the day Oliver North was sentenced in 1989 (strange coincidence...perhaps...)
July 6: Day 4 of conference; London banker and Enron witness Neil Coulbeck is reported missing*.
July 7: Day 5 of conference; Powell falls ill; Powell is scheduled to speak and, according to Forbes, he did.
July 8: Day 6 of conference
July 9: Day 7 of conference; Lay's Aspen memorial service.

I'm going to do more research on the conference. It seems like it was very eventful. In case anyone wants to join me, here's a linky: Aspen Ideas Institute.

*thanks to df1 for the info and link.

So here we are about five years after the SHTF for Enron. They made a movie about it, "ENRON, The Smartest Guys in The Room" (a must see) and with the current economy, those guys made out like bandits!

Lay is "dead" - not, but Skilling has completely dropped off the radar because Lay "died" before sentencing and apparently Skilling could not be retried. So, he is free and rich - and no doubt smart enough to have never put his money into investments because he wrote the book on defrauding investors.

The documentary shows CEO geek Lu Pi to have been the smartest and made off with a minimum of $250 million (probably 10 times that) and became the 2nd largest landowner in CO. He cleared out way ahead of the Congressional hearings.

Hey most of the links in this thread (almost three years old now) still work.

www.corpwatch.org...

Now - I mean today - Mar 2, 2009, the stylish thing for corporations (like AIG) to do is finally admit their losses because the governments of the world will pay them off - and the folks at the top still get their platinum parachutes. In-friggin-credible!
