I know that I was young when I use to watch "Land of the Lost". I hope some of you remember this show. I did a search on this topic and found nothing that relates to what i'm asking about here. Here is what I want to talk about.

They had Sleestaks on that show. Why is this the only show that I can think of with this type of creature? Why do you think they made them look the way they did? Were they trying to tell us something back in the 70s?

The crystals they had that controlled weather. Did they do other things as well?

The pyramids?

Why would they put all this together on one show that was meant for kids to watch?

Not sure why you don't remember other shows.

"V" was a show/mini-series in the 80s with reptilians as well (just one off the top of my head).

Why do you think they made them look the way they did?

As for why they looked the way they did, my guess is the amount of drugs ingested by the Croft brothers.

Were they trying to tell us something back in the 70s?

Don't do drugs?

My guess is no.

Did they do other things as well?

Can't remember what all of the abilities were with the Sleestak's crystals.

Why would they put all this together on one show that was meant for kids to watch?

The entertainment industry makes alot of crazy stuff for kids to watch, it's nothing new.

GiJoe had gun battles/violence blazing, Shaggy and Scooby were "stoners", etc.

I agree they have always stuck in my mind. I was a kid when it was playing too. Whenever I think of that show (which is not often) I think of the sleestaks first. I agree with you, somebody did this with some kind of knowledge in my opinion. I don't mean that in a bad way. They just had knowledge and put it in the show. It was the best part of the show.

Land of the Lost had some very well known sci-fi authors writing for the show. Despite the cheese you would get at times from the show, the stories were a little deeper than most realize and honestly the sleestak are some of the creepiest characters ever to come across children's television. "Enoch" is a very interesting intelligent sleestak on the show.

This Croft show was unlike all the others (less dope and more emotion)...I believe there was a remake in the 90's that was very bad and more Power Rangers than intelligent TV.

Suprised the Sci-Fi channel hasn't jumped on this and brought it back to the air. A redux Battle Star Galactica type show (more serious and without the cheese) would be a hit with me. Don't change the sleestak! You can get them better costumes, but the overall alien looking head and 7 foot body is creepy enough.

Anyone remember the "evolved dinosaur" look that a scientific team came up with...had some close similarities with what the sleestak looked like. Good to know there are some fans still out there, hopefully there are some in the TV producer world and push to remake this for those of us who have grown up.

yay sleestaks!!

Tis my knickname since 1990. As far as I can remember, I think those crystals might have opened portals? Not quite positive on that one, but I do miss that show...esp Enik, the friendly Sleestak

Hey sleetak,

You are correct. The crystal were able to open portals to other time frames and other worlds as well as controlling weather, earthquakes, etc.

The crystals also had other powers that could produce light to scare sleestaks or light a fire etc.

I think what you are calling the pyramids were called pylons.

As a young kid I could never get enough of those shows.

I rented them (from netflix) for my now 4 year old son and he seems to enjoy them pretty well. After watching a few myself, they still are entertaining, although special effects
are not up to par.

Take care,

Arghhhh I hated the Sleestaks...

I wathched that show all the time and they creeped me out...

I beleive that the GVMT uses TV / Movies to "let us know" without "letting us know", know what I mean..

I wish somebody would remake Land of the Lost FOR ADULTS. That show had a lot of CREEP potential.

Land of the lost, what great memories. I loved that show too. After the first season it did start to get real cheesy. They didn't need to add the uncle or grandpa. My other favorite, Space 1999. Awesome show.

Oh yeah, I remember that... Man, that SUV got some GREAT gas mileage, LOL!!!! It never seemed to be out of gas...
Very Power Rangerish....and just plain stupid.

I too would be all in for a remake (for adults)....

Unlike many though, I just can't get into BSG... I want my Cylons with back and forth red eyes, thank you very much....and I want Boomer, Starbuck, and the rest to be either a) the same sex they were in the original, or b) have different names. It's just plain ridiculous that they have the same names but aren't the same characters... Also, where the hell are the space battles? Seems everytime I've flipped the thing on, they're on some planet, or having a damn meeting...or worse yet, it's Baltar talking to the Cylon supermodel in his brain....(sure, she's hot, but c'mon man...??? Baltar should be on a throne in a baseship constantly cursing Adama, not be next to him in a board chair!!!) I want my laser blasts and explosions please, repeated stock footage or not, LOL....

BTW, anybody get the joke in the Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back movie? Will Farrell's character....Marshal Willandholly (Marshal, Will, and Holly...the three characters of the Land of the Lost)....

Land of the Lost. Wow!! Loved that show as a kid. Remember the shows song and the whirlpool they went into to get lost. The Sleestaks were very scary. Yes a remake with better effects and graphics would be cool. They actually have a fan website to go to with cast & crew etc. Here it is.
www.landofthelost.com...
Talk about bringing childhood memories back.

Ah!
Atomic, I found the "evolved Dino" you were talking about.
I saw that Documentary too. They based the look on an evolved version of a type of raptor called a "Troodon", a dino with a fairly large braincase.

here is the result:

If that link dies, just Google the word dinosauroid..and you will find more pics.

Now compared to the sleestak:

My wife & I use "sleestak" as a name we can call people in front of the kids; i.e., in traffic, someone cuts you off: "You freaking sleestack! choose a lane and stick with it!"

.

Actually, I think a Land of the Lost movie would do quite well if done right. By that I mean make it more of an adult movie.

Chaka was the bomb!

Peace
