I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or as you people like to call us mormons. Any questions about our religion?

Why is so little attention paid to the Old Testament, or if it is held in the same regard to the rest of scripture and the Book of Mormon, why do so few Mormons (at least none that I've talked to) know what is written in the OT and how to reconcile it with the rest of the scriptures you believe?

I do not know why the people you have talked to don't know much about the OT but I took a whole years early morning seminary* that taught me about the OT. we consider the Bible to be the word of god so long as it is translated correctly. In other words we hold all scriptures with the same respect I know mormons who don't know what's in the book of mormon either.

Who decides what the correct translation is, and what book is the final authority for words that could be contested?

How do today's LDS reconcile Joe Smith's obvious pedophilia (lusting after teenage girls) with his Revelation to commit adultery in the form of polygamy as a message from God?

How can today's LDS revere their Prophets with a history of prophecy like that?

Where did you get that story? Do you have a credible source or is this hearsay?
First of all Joseph Smith was not a pedephile second polygamy was authorized by God (remember joseph was a prophet of God) polygamy was not only practiced by LDS(mormons) but was practiced in the old Testament times by King David by Solomon and others and is still practiced in several ancient cultures. Revelation to another prophet Wilford Woodruff ended the practice of polygamy in the church in October 1890.

One prophet contradicted another prophet and that contradiction was accepted and neither prophet was declared false?

The bible has been translated from hebrew to greek to latin and realizing that the bible was copied by hand for hundreds of years which created a margine for human error. It wasn't untill the 15th century with the advent of gutenburgs invention of the printing press that the bible could be printed in large numbers. Thus creating the refremention age.
The only way to find truth from error one must do as James (1:5) instructs in the New Testiment which is to "ask of God with faith nothing wavering".
My answer to this would be to ask members/missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for a copy of the Book of Mormon and read about the Jesus' visit to the americas and then do as it states in Moroni (10:3-5) which basically says read, ponder, and ask of God with faith in Jesus Christ if it is true. You will know by the spirit of God. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that Joseph smith was a prophet of God.

Ahh, but that doesn't account for the Dead Sea Scrolls that demonstrated that the Jews have been very meticulous in maintaining the same scripture for at least 2,000 years. Also, that assumes that no Greek translations existed after the Latin was made, and no Hebrew translations existed after the Greek was made, neither of which was true. The NIV was composed using over 22,000 ancient Greek (and Latin, I believe) documents to ensure the accuracy, rather than making a translation of a translation of a translation.

Principals of the gospel never change but practices often change. The church is run by Jesus Christ because it's his church and the instruction to end polygamy in the church came from Jesus through the prophet.

The dead sea scrolls were writen and hidden by the Macabees and were found in the 50s or 60s and are still not translated yet. We use the king James version of the bible which has been proven to be the most correct but still not accurate because of the difficulty in translating Hebrew,Greek , and Latin To english. There are still many missing books of the Old Testiment which we look forward to being found.
