This is so cool, treating internal bleeding with ultrasound. This is going to be so useful in the ER also. Ultrasound actually seals ruptures without invasive risky surgery.

The US military plans a portable device that uses focused sound waves to treat troops bleeding internally from wounds sustained on the battlefield.

Ultrasound can seal ruptured blood vessels deep within the body without the need for risky surgery.

The lightweight device has to be designed so that soldiers can operate it with minimal training.

Blood loss from wounds to the extremities is regarded as a major, preventable cause of battlefield death.

As an ICU Nurse, this excites me greatly, because if they can get this type of machine to work, and work safely, it could possibly be used for ambulance crews at the scenes of major RTA's. Massive shock is always a killer at these types of emergencies, and having a machine there to stop deep internal bleeding would be a Godsend.

I see it won't be ready for a while, but as ever, its war where mankind makes his greatest discoveries and achievements.
