The other problem here is the fact that while some might not believe the press, they are sure repeating the Rovian "party line" enough to try and quiet dissent about "rights being taken away". What has always interested me is the fact that those that espouse "Rovian thinking" seem to say that they have nothing to hide.

Say what you will. But I guarantee you those that claim this are the first ones screaming about civil liberties when it becomes too late. And they may know the Constitution verbatim as well as the national anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. But those espousing the "party line" will do nothing to fight for the rights of their citizens nor recognize the fact that there are foreign nationals and American citizens languishing in Guantanamo. They will not even lift a finger in the name of civil rights.

They will not even recognize the fact that it has been found that the government, in setting up military tribunals, violated the Geneva Conventions. Nor the fact that some soldiers, in our name, are terrorizing and even killing civilians in Iraq.

I just have to ask, what will it take to realize that we as U.S. citizens have been severely restricted in our movements, our speech and our ideas since 9/11 happened?

This has especially happened with the stories regarding arrests of American citizens who decided to express dissent at different venues (i.e., Senator Rick Santorum's book signing, "Free Speech Zones", being escorted out of the SOTU address in 2006 and of course, "Guantanamo on the Hudson".).

The Center for Constitutional Rights and the American Civil Liberties Union are in high business right now because of the disenfranchisement of some people who have run afoul of the "new policies" based on "the War on Terror".

Of course, we might not feel the affects of the restrictions now because of not having "anything to hide". But one day, there will be something that will make us notice. And all the time spent on quieting dissenters will be wasted time indeed.
