I would like your opinion on this, please.

I would like to know if it's legal and ethic, to use the video footage broadcasted by news agencies from the 9-11, on commercial programmes like soap operas?

to be quite honest, i'm not sure. I believe that as long as they (the shows) got some sort of consent from the news agency that originally aired the footage that it would be legal...as far as ethical goes, i think it would depend on the how the footage was used, as in the context of the show. Personally i think making hollywood movies out of these types of events is un-ethical, but thats my 2 cents

The footage i saw, where the impact of both planes and the colapsing of one building.

As far as legally, they would have to recieve permission first.

As far as ethics, it depends on the context it was shown in. For example, I don't see any problem using the footage as part of a documentary. But there is no place for this footage in say a comedy, or any type of movie glorifying the perpetrators.

A movie about the heroism of the rescue efforts, is another good example of an acceptable context.

But in soap operas??

Some of the footage i saw, in the soap opera, were broadcasted by this tv channel in the day of 9-11, so i presume bought at that time to show in the news, but using it for a profit reason, like a sopa opera, for me is revolting. It's making money through the suffering of others.


I agree with you on the documentarie and the heroism of the rescue efforts.

They had the consent at the time to show it, like news, but how about the consent to use it on a commercial soap opera? Where there is evident profit, from the suffer of others? Can the news agencies sell their footage to be use in commercial prime time sopa operas or only for news?
