Al-Qaeda terrorists came within 45 days of attacking the New York subway system with a lethal gas similar to that used in Nazi death camps. They were stopped not by any intelligence breakthrough, but by an order from Osama bin Laden's deputy, Ayman Zawahiri. And the U.S. learned of the plot from a CIA mole inside al-Qaeda. REading the article it seems the US powers that be were pretty clueless about it and were afraid it could still happen, anytime, anywhere.

Lucky, if you ask me.

You must realize that this is a small part of the story and the story is in the hands of TIME who is not the friend of the people.

Now then;

There is actually more speculation pointing to the fact that Bin Laden wanted something bigger than gas to overshadow 911. This has been a pattern now for a while. The crux is that we are fighting them here on our soil as well and there are obviously sleeper cells IN the US. Not denying that it is good to put pressure on the cells and try and infiltrate them, but iwould be cautious to mark this as a CIA victory.
