My neighbour (a few acres away) has horses. Every once in a while like around 3:00 a.m., I can hear them squealing (or whatever). I know some say they do this when one of them is being slaughtered. But I don't believe this is the case. There are too few of them. I think they are kept for recreational purposes not to breed for dog food.

Anyone have any ideas?

This brings back hauntingly eerie memories!! I hope for your sake and your neighbors it has NOTHING in relation to my experience. DO NOT INVESTIGATE-just incase!!!

I relived my experience *somewhat* here ONE time in a very old post..I refuse to go there again. I'm very sorry, I'm not trying to be rude. I'm pretty sure Questor knows what I'm talking about though and that is what matters most.

They could be mating. I have no idea about animal sexuality, but there are plenty of cats that run around my neighborhood. On rare occassions I've heard what sounds like a hellish cat fight only to look under the rafters of my house to see strange cats mating.

I had a boyfriend who got his horse drunk on beer - he "whinnied" all night long - apparently that night he broke through a fence and got several mares pregnant....
Therefore I'll go along with Heelstone - They're probably doing the horsey bang bang....

I understand magestica. I hope Questor's case isn't anything like yours, as you're indicating it was pretty horrible.

Horses sense malign spirits. They are very spiritual creatures. The American Natives developed a very close bond to them soon after the Europeans brought them here. They were closer to them than the Europeans.

As long as Questor doesn't end up with horse heads or other body parts in her yard or surrounding area..I'll back away from my paranoia and go with the breeding thing..however I find unlikely as most respectable horse breeders do not allow their horses to go at it at 3am. It should be observed under better/sound conditions as you just don't breed any horse to another, or let them do it all night long!
