being a stream link member is well worth the 6 bucks a month trust me. But putting some hacker away for 70 odd years is a joke, people kill other people and get a 1/4 of that im jail time

I know, it's comlete BS.

He caused $700,000 to $900,000 in damages and accessed secure files on government computers. He is no hero. He is a common criminal.

There is nothing funny about hacking or computer viruses. I personally have 7 employees that rely on me to support their families. One visit by a hacker or a virus can shut me down for days. It can cost me many thousands and hurt my people badly. This man should not be allowed to do interviews about his crimes. Anyone who would give him a venue should be taken off the air for encouraging criminal activity. He’s obviously trying to drum up sympathy for his cause and some people will fall for it. Then he will probably sell them a worthless book and laugh at everyone all the way to the bank.

$700,000 to $900,000 in damages how was that worked out ?, If anything they should cut the guy a deal and ask him how he bypassed security that is ment to be "Hack-proof'.

I'm sure they will use shock treatment to get all the information they want out of him once they lock him up for the rest of his life.

700-900k is ALOT of damage. Just imagine if you were the head of networking security and you get phone call at 2pm while you're eating your ice cream treat. And the guy at the other end says "uhh, you remember when the systems all went down and files were missing a year ago?" "yea i remember" "well the guy was a complete amatuer, it was his first hack" .

The rest of your ice cream would suck.

If the American military bothered to secure their computer's this would not have happened the damages they quoted are obviously vastly inflated It's probably the price for wiping the machines and bothering to use passwords this time.

Also from news articles and other media I was given the impression he was only one of many on those computers from a variety of countries it's interesting the Americans went after the British guy.

I find the case disturbing for the reason as far as I was aware British law didn't allow for anyone to be extradited to a country that enforced a death penalty and I am fully against any British citizen being sent to face American courts for any reason.

I dont believe his UFO storys they sound like a mish mash of different things he's read on websites in my opinion as I've read half of them myself on places like here.

IMHO he should be tried in British courts and tested for mental stability I dont think anyone deserves 80 years for a crime where noone got physically hurt.

I would like to see them justify the 900k dollars damage in court.

Please, if they can continuously justify the countless lies to instigate the war in Iraq and Afghanistan THIS IS A WALK IN THE PARK
.

McKinnon better hope the US does not deem this a "terror act" and toss him in Guantanamo bay

How this for irony.....

from the Coast 2 Coast web site

"Note: UFO truth seeker Gary McKinnon had been scheduled to discuss his situation related to his arrest from hacking into US military computer networks, but there was a problem with his phone line so he wasn't able to be on Tuesday's show. "

the guy use's phone lines to hack people PC's and when it comes time to talk on C2C its that same thing that hacks him
.

Or maybe the NSA was trying stop Gary telling what he found ?

Isn't there laws that states you cant discuss this case, especially on c2c.
Is he in any breach of the law to continue to spout off what he saw??

As the US Government have not commented, confirmed nor denied on anything he's claimed to found, read or seen, he's technically not in any breach. I'd imagine it's delicate for them, because one sniff of anything that confirms even an inkling of what he's saying to be true and UFO nuts/world media will be all over them like a rash. Not exactly the best way to keep some serious secrets, secret. (if indeed, any of this is true)

Hence why the angle for prosecution is standard "blah blah, you hacked us, blah blah, damages around 900k blah blah" - much safer and more legal was of getting someone extradited and with less negative media attention on them and in turn, makes him look like a "nutjob". And in the UK, he hasn't had longer than 5 minutes of mainstream exposure and the average person on the street wouldn't have an idea who he is or what he's done. Just the way the US Government wants it.

However, if he explained how he did it, by methods or software - then yes, most definitely he would be in breach of most of the standard western world laws.

Personally, I don't think he found anything. But the fact that he broke in, accessed information on a supposedly secure system, was a complete "newbie" at hacking and then went as public as he could when the sh*t hit the fan, all makes for an already bad looking USG (in the world media), look incompetent. And post 9/11, this is not a good thing.

70 years bit, confuses me though. Which makes me want to believe that there is a possibility he did find something they wanted to keep a secret and can't deny. Who knows. We certainly won't in this lifetime.

McKinnon's case was mentioned on Radio 4 this morning, during the early morning news today.

Though nothing exciting and no mention of what he supposedly "saw".

Interesting.
