You gotta remember the Old School gamer demographic which has been completely ignored by everybody including Nintendo(ever since N64 and ending with the GC). I am one of those old school gamers who transferred primarily to the PC platform for gaming.

Just a note, old school gamers are gamers who played most of their console games in the days of Atari, Nintendo and Sega. That is a huge demographic.

A large portion of that demographic already have children and are usually strapped for cash. The wii will appeal to them because,

A. It will have a large childrens gaming library spanning two system iterations.

B. It will have a large number of Mature titles intended for adult audiences.

C. The controlling mechanism enables gameplay otherwise not possible on a conventional console controller,

D. It's Cheap. and finally

E. It's emblazioned with the classic Nintendo Insignia. Nostalgia will play in Nintendo's favor much more then people realize.

To me, the 360 and PS3 are just dedicated gaming PC rigs which my own computer will overmatch in a few months anyway.

The Wii however offers something my PC cannot. A Platform where it won't be a total pain to play FPS's, RPG's, RTS's, etc on a console sitting on the couch(or standind infront of a bigscreen plasma). All those genres that have historically been PC genres will finally have a chance to show their true depth on the console platform. Larger audience, equals larger budget games and more of them as well.

you read or you think its just a rumor? i think you just started that rumor, if not show me what you read. adding that nobody is going to spend 250 for a reved up gamecube is funny. does that statement use your RUMOR as part of its reasoning?

look at how the WII is already selling.
Read And WIIp

Certain portions of the Internet were all atwitter last Friday when word broke that Amazon.com was taking pre-orders for the Wii. Then the buzz got even louder when word broke that the offer had been pulled after only a few hours. Had Amazon sold out of their allotment that quickly?

explain to me how no one wants to buy a system with great potential to have more FUN FACTOR then the ps3. a system that might be alot more fun and cost 60% less. graphics wont save ps3 because FUN FACTOR > graphics.

show me where you read this as well.

do you simply fear the imminent defeat of the souped up ps3 to the hands of the GAMER FRIENDLY wii so you are pooping on it the best you can. show me where you read your two RUMORS. peace

You sir, have been absolutely brainwashed by nintendo.

And heres your oh so precious link

I am not a fanboy of anything.
I think the PS3 will start strong...But will loose steam pretty quick.

I dont want to own a game concole where I swing my arms around, and there games...as always, seem very kid-ish.

Oh, and graphics are a major part of gamming. Better graphics can make the game more realistic and more fun to play, better consoles can handle more intense gamming, Like having hundreds of people on screen and interactive, and have it all running smoothly.
The Wii IS a revved up GC, the ONLY thing is has going for it is its controller.

I think that by around 2008-9, the Wii will have sold the most consoles (because its so cheap), and the 360 will be in the number 2 spot, and the PS3 will be lagging behind.

employees from various Wal-Marts have stated that they expect to get their Wii demo units in for Q1 2007 and believe it was a timing issue.
that is from YOUR LINK. who is brainwashed? u cant even gather the correct info from YOUR links. have any more LIES or RUMORS u want to leave?

Spinter Cell is kiddish? Resident Evil? Far Cry? Symphony director is made for kids? How 'bout Trauma Center: The Second Opinion!?

Also by your own analysis of the situation, if the Wii sells as much as you think it will(I believe it will take second place to 360 after MS visciously cuts the pricing just before this Christmas), then the developers will have to develop games that appeal to all who buy them. That is a huge, diverse audience ranging from ages 5 to 35. (and potentially older as well, getting the baby boomers on board the gaming bandwagon has been a goal of certain developers for some time, but has met with limited success, Nintendo seems to be succeeding in this regard as my mother was asking me to get her a DS Lite
) I see this situation as a big plus. Larger Audience, larger development budget(If you're anyone BUT the formely great ElectronicArts)

MMOish style games in their current form feel rather "fadish" so any game that uses hundreds of characters online better know how to make it fun, cuz it's not that easy(hint to MMO Console devs: Look to games like EVE and WoW for inspiration of how NOT to do your MMO
Fresh and different will win the console gamers over).

As for hundreds of monsters onscreen at the same time, PS2 did it for a couple of (lame) games. The consoles should just leave that type of thing to dedicated PC games(they'll soon be able to process waay more Physics data then consoles), but they won't and will definately churn out crap game after crap game with a few must haves, but mostly crap games we've all seen and played before *yawn*. Same thing with PC games though(With the possible exceptions of Spore and Bioshock)

sardion dont you love how people say the wii is just a revved up gamecube.

what is the ps3? is it not a revved up ps2.

some fanboys just amaze me, they always start of by saying im not a fanboy of anything then they bust out the most outlandish comments.

i ask you murcielage what is more important? FUN FACTOR OR GRAPHICS?

im not asking what system will have more of each, im just asking which of the two is more important.

let me state this, star control one for the sega genesis had amazing fun factor but star control three for the pc much much better graphics . which one was better? starcontrol one!

ok, as far as the link business...I was wrong. being wrong, and lying are 2 entirely different things.

And no, not ALL games for the Wii will be kid-ish...but the vast majority of them are (in my eyes).

and NOOO, I am not a damn fanboy.

I have never ever owned a playstation console in my entire life!

And as for that ridiculous question that you just love to keep asking... my answer is......BOTH.
Heres an example of how stupid your question is: Whats more important on a car...Tires or an Engine.

Murcielago, that analogy doesn't work. for a car to function as a legit transportation vehicle, wheels and an enine are required. they are not optional choices. but good graphics are not required for a game to be considerd 'fun', mainly becaue 'fun' is subjective. what may be fun for me may not be fun for you. case in point: ds vs psp.
when it comes down to it, the psp is obviously superior technologically. ds graphics don't even compare to the psp. and yet, worldwide, the ds outsells it's technical superior in pretty much every region, especially in japan. some say it's because of company loyalty. well sony is as much a japanese company as nintendo, so that can't be it. then they say "oh, it's because of the price!" well, if price were really the deciding factor, the gamecube would've outsold the ps2 and xbox a very long time ago. but compared to the psp ds games are considered, by most people, to be plain fun. psp crushes the ds in the graphical department, but that doesn't matter because the games on the ds are fun.
i think that's the message nintendo is trying to go for here, and really i agree with them. i don't care if the game is considered to be "4 TEH KIDYZ" or whatever. i for one am tired of having to sit through another cookie cutter copy of the same fps, WWII games, and countless GTA knockoffs. seriously, how many different versions of Madden can EA release in a year?! "but its got teh blooray!!"
look, if you're one of those people whose social status absolutely depends on the kinds of video games you play, then by all means go for whatever you feel is going to make other people think you're "cool". as for me, i'm geting the wii. there are three other girls in my dorm who play games just as much as i do, and we're all pretty much looking forward to it

...then again, the ps3 is probably gonna have Riiiiiiiiiidge Racer!!

60.7% - Nintendo DS
32.8% - Wii
3.3% - PS2

For me, it just depends on whether or not Nintendo can deliver on the virtua console. I'll very likely buy either a 360 or Wii early next year, and if Nintendo can make all of those great late '80s/early '90s games that I played growing up available for easy download, I'll buy.

The fear I have is that they will only release the 'popular' titles, and a whole lot of great, but somewhat obscure games will not be re-released. If that's the case, I'll probably buy the 360 instead.

considering indie developers can place their games on the wii, and considering you can get most old school video games from emulators, i dont see why numerous games wont be available on the virtual console. i will be sad if you cant get many of the awesome sega genesis titles. like phantasy star 2,star control, or herzog zwei. i already own all three of those cartridges but i think it would be cool for new school gamers to enjoy what i was lucky to grow up with.

i am looking forward to finally beating super metroid.
not sure if anyone has posted this, but here is a supposed picture of the wii mote packaging

nice box!! it looks like one of those sopisticated boxes that those really fancy pens come in. i think i'd have probably truly hated it if it were plastic or some other junk like that.
ya know, for a company that has been stigmatized with "teh kiddy" image since the early 90's, it looks like nintendo's really trying to shape up to be one of the more 'mature' consoles this generation around.

teh box does look smooth. in an article i read they compare it to the ipod nano box, ive never seen that so i wouldnt know. that pic hasnt been verified but it would make sense and it says wii, so im sold.

i cant wait for the wii, the fun my 6 year old girl and i will have with it is going to be amazing. she is so excited for wario ware, she loved the 2 on the gameboy ds. her and her cousins are going to tear that up when the wii comes out.

could the ps3 entertain a 7 year old girl, a 6 year old girl and a 4 year old girl. i dont think so. could the wii entertain a 29 year old man. it sure will, cant wait for twilight princess.

peace

Idiot question of the day...

I'm stuck with dialup internet access. If I buy a Nintendo Wii, will I be able to download the virtua console games? I'm assuming that I'll be able to download them through my PC by connecting a USB cable. Or could I just connect it to my external modem?

this comes from the hardware section of wii.com :

Network
The Wii console communicates wirelessly with the Internet via IEEE 802.11 or a USB 2.0 LAN adaptor. Wii also can connect wirelessly with Nintendo DS.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

wii.nintendo.com...

so yeah, i'm guessing that you'll need a high speed connection to connect.

yes, the wii pretty much uses the same hardware as a gamecube that's been notched up a bit. but if the games turn out to be as promising as they now seem, i'm still planning on getting it.

Its about time Nintendo gave the truth out.

So, Your basically paying $250 for a new remote...since they could have just used the GC for all there Wii accessories.

They seem to think that graphics have nothing to do with how much "fun" a game can be....Which is a shame. I had a NES back in the day, and bought the 64 when it came out...back then they were all about having great graphics and the games being 3-D, But these days....Its just "Hey look! 5 years later and wii'ved developed a brand new remote!"

I'm not completely against the Wii though, since it does offer things the GC doesn't, lke the whole "plays every Nintendo game ever made" thing...But I think its ubber backward compatibility is about it.

They must have being pretty mad once Microsoft started up Xbox Live Arcade, which gives you the ability to play dozens and dozens of good ol' classics. And with Microsoft updates, there enabling you to play the majority of your older xbox games on the 360.

And sonys PS3 will let you play their older games as well.

So I guess Nintendo's BIG comment that it has "the ability to play any and all Nintendo games" seems kinda like a standard for the industry as a whole.

murcielago you act like a fanboy when you refer to the wii as a gc. have you seen the specs? NO
nintendo has stated something like the wii will have 2 - 3x the power the gc has.

how is that comparable? just because its not as high tech as the ps3 it automatically makes it nothing but a gc?

ive noticed from the sonyfanboys i know in real life they can only attempt to talk down on the wii, because talking up the ps3 only rings on sonyfans ears. no one outside of sonyland cares about the amazing 600 dollar graphics the ps3 is capable of. most gamers, and especially most soon to be gamers care about FUN.

the battle in the new console war is not going to be faught and won between the fanyboys of each system. its going to be won from the new gamers. people who would never have bought a system unless something new, something different, somthing creative and ingenious comes along.

well my friend if it takes a gamecube x 2-3 with the most advanced controller ever made for a home console, then i believe nintendo is on the right path. the arugement people have made that the wii is for kids is humurous. where better to find new gamers then kids. they are being born everyday.

what game has better graphics? star control 2or star control 3????
star control 3 does. which games is more fun star control 2or star control 3????
star control 2by a long shot. star control 2 had lessor graphics then star control 3 and it still owns star control 3. why? because FUN > GRAPHICS anyday.

about the controller and its potential .
lets use an imaginary boxing game as an example. what is more fun?
pushing the 0 button to use a right jab, the [ ] button to do a left jab, the X button to uppercut and the top right and left buttons to block. that is how u would play it on the ps3.

now look how its played with the wii. simply throwing a jab at the tv to jab, or throwing an upper cut at the tv to laydown an uppercut, throwing a combo left , right, left , right jabs to perform a combo or simply putting your hands in a blocking position to block a punch. WHICH SEEMS LIKE MORE FUN???????????? x,o,x,o, top l and top r, x,[ ],o,[ ] , top l and top r. do you get what im saying?

right now gaming is only fun to us gamers. nintendo wants to expand the market.

if the wii is only a gc , WHY ARE SO MANY PEOPLE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE Wii?

watch these murcielago, dont be afraid.
wii stamepede right past the ps3 booth=pwnage
wii stampede
wii stampede 2
wii stampede 3
line for the wii
insane day three line at e3 expo to play the wii, i guess word got around how FUN the wii is

the wait to play the ps3 was 20-30 minutes, the wait for the wii was 3-4 hours. WHY ALL THIS JUST TO PLAY A GAMECUBE? maybe nintendo is onto something with the wii and the wiimote.
peace i hope you enjoy the videos. i couldnt find any of people RUNNING to play the ps3.

Of course I've seen the specs...they have been out for many months.
& I've never said the Wii is the GC, I said its a reved up GC.
The Wii isn't even twice as powerful as the Gamecube, Its around 1.5, meaning its as powerful as 1 1/2 GC's.
For comparison, the 360 is around 8 times more powerful then the first Xbox.
Initial reports were that it was over 10 times...But the truth came out later. Which is what I'm sure will happen to the overly hyped PS3, Some sites are saying its 35 times more powerful that the PS2...But more realistic numbers will become available once its released.
and I dont think i'm a "fanboy" saying that its basically a super charged GC...If you read the link (a few posts before this one) it seems that nintendo game designer guru agrees with me.

3. why? because FUN > GRAPHICS anyday.

Your like a broken record, and just keep repeating the same thing over and over again.
You dont seem to grasp that having better picture quality makes the games more enjoyable.
This goes for games, and many other things...like movies. What would the average person prefer watching a movie on VHS or DVD? DVD or HD-DVD? The choice is obvious.

As for your Wiimote examples.....You might be right...your might be wrong. I'm going to hold off on saying that its "great" or "lousy", Like everyone else...I'm just going to have to wait another 6 weeks until its released and reviews come pouring in.....Or at least until my local wal-mart or best buy gets a Wii Kiosk.

why do you assume i think graphics have nothing to do with a game? did i say that ? NOPE so quit assuming things or putting words in my mouth. game systems have advanced to the point where graphics are amazing. if graphics were such a BIG deal, the atari 2600 would have never beat out the calecovision. the atari was more fun.

your a fanboy in denial. you seem afraid to admit the mighty ps3 can lose to the lessor plumbers box. are you just waiting to see which system is more popular?

your vhs and dvd anaology is weak. im sure its impossible to get it through your brain because ive said it like 100 times because im like a broken record but here is a better analogy for you.

would you rather watch spiderman on vhs or the hulk on dvd.

fyi childish remarks only disrupt any point you attempt to make.
peace
