Basically, King 85 was a coalition patrol in conjunction with Afghan forces (ANA). They came in contact with (were ambushed by) a group of 40-50
enemy Taliban about 6 miles NE of fire base Cobra, and were pinned down by small arms fire. They called in a fire support mission and within a half
hour received 25 rounds of 105mm (howitzer) high explosive rounds and an A-10 Thunderbolt II jet fired 800 rounds of 30mm cannon in support of their
engagement with the enemy Taliban. This allowed King 85 to gain fire superiority over the enemy and, I'm assuming, the enemy broke contact and
retreated.
Four members of King 85 were wounded. Two were US Special Forces personnel with non life-threatening gunshot wounds to the lower extremities. Two
Afghan troops were also injured; one with a gunshot wound to the eye, the other with unspecified but critical wounds. This second Afghan soldier was
later re-classified KIA, after succumbing to his wounds. The first was medivacced from the HLZ mentioned in the report.
King 85 was covered by King 81 from Oshay Bridge while they returned to FB Cobra. On the way back they discovered an unexploded IED 3.6 miles from
the FB. This IED was disarmed by Afghan forces.
Thats about it.
