I'm not a gamer but I just purchased a new dell and am thinking of purchasing a video game to see if it's any fun and to test the video card.

If you could only choose one video game for an XP machine what would it be?

Thanks for your help....

I know very little about games but I find the following most interesting:

1) Fantasy

2) Racing

3) Action/Adventure

4) 1st person shooters

Please recommend more than one if you all have several good games in mind

With regards to graphics, be sure and check the tech specs of a game that you are thinking about purchasing to be sure that your graphics card can handle it.

With regards to games, you might want to read up on the Devil May Cry series, as well as the Tom Clancy Splinter Cell series. Devil May Cry games are fantasy/action; and the Splinter Cell is action/stealth type. You might enjoy these.

What type of Dell did you get? I am thinking of getting one of their XPS series gaming machines.

Good luck and have fun!

Get yourself Half Life 2, Counter Strike Source, and Day of Defeat.

also they got all kinds of different packages, best thing is you have a steam account and you just dl the games so no worry of loosing your disc. no monthly fees, you just pay per game you want.

Only thing you might not be able to run the newer games to full power and even a few of the older more demanding games, x600 SE, even though its PCI-E it lacks 0bar powar, like the x850.

most games you can scale down though on graphics

You'll need to upgrade your card in the future is all.

www.ati.com...

HDR rawks.

I'd say one of these 3 FPS

Fear (my current fav)
www.whatisfear.com...

Sin Episodes Emergence (fairly short and can be quite difficult but good fun)

Half life 2 or the forthcoming Half Life episode one (HL2 best game ever?)
You can buy a pack that includes HL2, counterstrike & day of defeat. Counterstrike is probably the best mulitplayer FPS and one of the most popular.
You can buy in store, on the internet or direct from steam if you have broadband
www.steampowered.com...

Sin Episodes Emergence (fairly short and can be quite difficult but good fun)
also available from steam

fear is quite demanding on hardware but should run fine on new hardware as the others will do. Agree you may want to upgrade your video card as the X600 is fairly old but should play those game on lower settings.

The newer ones all support shader 3.0 such as nvidia 7800/7900 or ATI x1800/x1900

I've just got the X1900XTX which is a massive improvement over the X850PE I had before. At least you have got 1gb ram as any less than that you'll really notice the difference.

have fun

note: you wont need that for any of the steam games as they autoupdate plus and not all games support it

Yeah you don't NEED it, but it makes joining multiplayer games a lot easier, well games that your friends are playing.

over 550 games currently supported

ps: I never use the autoupdate feature on xfire... do you?
