All I have heard is that we need to protect our border with Mexico, and the President tells us mostly about labor reasons. It would be no problem to build obstacles to protect the border, and it would reduce illegals from coming into the country quite a bit. But, the agenda of militarizing the border leads me to think that there is more to this than meets the eye.

Obviously, border patrols do not stop immigrants from finding their way here, and adding more manpower will help, but not stop it. Why use the military? Why not just hire more border patrol? I think what is going on here (on my gut feeling) is that the government is apprehensive about the border being used for terrorism based on threats or percieved threats in the near future. I think it has nothing to do with Mexicans coming here illegally to work. I think the Pres. wants a military presence to thwart off any penetration from the south and is using the immigration issue as a sounding board.

What are your thoughts?

In a policy shift, the White House is praising Israel's plan to set its borders with the Palestinians and is convinced those boundaries could create side-by-side states if a negotiated solution proves elusive.
Yet the course that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert outlined to President Bush is detested by the Palestinians and avoids the contentious issues that have made peace and establishment of a Palestinian state unrealized goals.

I got that from a news release here
Policy Shift, A Shell Game

This is a giant shell game. While they are stealing our Constitution, and sealing up our borders, they are giving a Constitution to Iraq, and praising Israel for doing exactly the opposite of what we're doing.

That is remarkable. I wasnt aware of this happening. I guess I havent been watching as much news (too depressing). Anyway, this seems to me like the Israelis are playing a different card, which may work, but it seems they are just creating a melting pot, which perhaps will reduce tensions in the their little world.

It really isnt that we are tightening up the Mex/American border to thwart Mexicans though, I think it is to prevent any idiot from bringing in some contraband that has the ability to kill us. I think it would be easier to buy a bunch of C4 in another country and bring it across the Mexican border than to buy it here in the US. Anyone who had contacts could do this, not to mention bringing in a nuclear weapon.

If a guy can walk across the river into the US with a backpack just to get a job on a farm, then he could certainly be paid to carry that same pack with a load of refined uranium or something. I think this is what this is about.
