Well guys. After trying repeatedly to make an Avatar I have failed miserably. So I just jacked one out of my photobucket.

I was trying to make one that had someone surfing on it.

How exactly do you make them ? I tried PhotoShop but....yyeeaaah. Lets just say I'm not the best Photoshopper.

Okay, I can give you a few tips if you are not too familiar with Photoshop

Try following this step-by-step and see how you get on:

First open your image in Photoshop, then select the tool at the very top left of the toolbar - looks like a rectangle of dotted lines. Click on it and hold for a second or two to get a choice of different styles - you want the Rectangular Marquee Tool.

Now look to the top of the screen and there should be a drop down menu with the options Style: Normal, Fixed Aspect Ratio and Fixed Size. Choose 'Fixed Aspect Ratio' and set it to Width: 16 Height: 32.

Now select an area of your image by clicking on the top left where you want to start, then click and drag until you have selected an area you want to cut out.

Then select Image>Crop

Then select Image>Image Size

In the Dialogue box that opens, set width = 160 pixels

Hey presto! you have an ATS sized avatar!

Choose the Text Tool (8th tool down on the right marked by a 'T')

Click on your image, choose a nice font and add any text you want

To move the text exactly where you want it, choose the Move tool (black arrow on the toolbar)

Remember to go into Layer>Flatten Image when you have finished

Then File>Save As

Give it a name and remember to choose JPEG as the format in the drop down menu

All done!

Hope this is of help - please feel free to U2U me if you need anything

PS

I made this if you want it:

Or post an image here and I can resize it for you
