The FBI revealed Sunday that Rep. William Jefferson, under investigation for bribery, was videotaped accepting $100,000 in $100 bills from an FBI informant whose conversations with the lawmaker also were recorded. Agents later found the cash hidden in his freezer, according to a court document released Sunday.

At one meeting captured on audiotape, Jefferson chuckles about writing in code to keep secret what the government contends was his corrupt role in getting his children a cut of a communications company's deal for work in Africa.

Some people are clamoring to "clean house" in Congress during the next election cycle but if these guys keep completing "business as normal", they may put themselves out of a job without the help of the American people.

For any future politicians out there, a word of advice:

If you are going to use secret code to keep track of your illegal business deals, keep your mouth shut or it completely negates the secrecy of your records.

Thank you for your reply.

No, even the story on ATSNN didn't get a whole lot of play with this subject. That's okay, though. I put the story up to spread the word about another corrupt politician and I am happy that the thread got a few hits so that, if someone were not aware of it before, they are now.

I think that people do care about this type of thing, there just isn't much that they (or I) can do about it at the grassroots level.

I have been watching the news coverage today about this event and it sickens me. It seems that they want to seal the files for 30 or 45 days for a "cooling off" period for all involved, but I don't think that that is what is needed.

Oh, well. I have my Senators and Congressmen on speed dial.

Again, thank you for your reply.
