canadian troops fight taliban

Canadian troops engaged Taliban militants in two separate firefights over the weekend in southern Afghanistan.
Although there were no Canadian casualties, the amoured vehicle the troops were driving in bears bullet marks from the machine-gun firefight.

Maj. Todd Strickland, the deputy commander of Canada's battle group in southern Afghanistan, said Sunday the soldiers were very lucky.
"A soldier's luck is a funny thing -- sometimes you got it, sometimes you don't," Strickland said. "Yesterday we were lucky."

its good to know that none of them died!! i hate seeing pictures of dead canadian soilders in the newspaper!

They did say a couple of months ago that once the spring comes and the snows melt, that the passes would open up and the fighting would once again start. Supposed to be pretty heavy .

Don't worry..Us Brits are over there to help you chaps out. Would say that the Yanks have your rear covered too, but they have a tendency to shoot at it....

I'm proud of our canadian troops out there, they are doing very well!! i'm just worried that we too as a nation might end up as a major target for terrorism because of our involvement. Canadians have stayed in the good books of a lot of countries for our peace keeping, i hope we haven't changed the minds of the wrong people.......

Seems strange that NATO have to take over a war started by the US.

We keep hearing how dangerous and lawless it is despite the US having troops on the ground for 5 years.

An admission that the US is no good at fighting a 'thinking' war or is NATO just freeing US troops so they (US troops) can attack Iran?

Glad the Canadians are there too, just like old times! The Empire fighting Afghans!

UK comittment is 5,500 troops (3,500 of whom are staying to do the fighting). The other 2,000 have built a damned big base

6 Harriers (and presumably AAR support given the harrier's range). CAS was going to be provided by the Italians but they forgot to organise the deployment

Seems a lot to me - maybe it's really for a threatened 2nd front against North East Iran?

thats so true lol,well next time there being screwed over in some pointless war im sure we will think about it for a second and decide we rather stay home and plant trees or somthing rather then have 90% casultey rate from "friendley fire"...(i made up that 90% thing was just a example i have no proof of it)

I think its dumb for Canadians to be there in first place i mean sure it nice to help the people out but its not our war its not our peoblem let america deal with that stuff...afater all there the "super power" theay can handel 2 small,weak practiley defencless countrys... this is all my opinion by the way but a long as we are there best of luck our soldiers! give them hell and watch ur ass!
