Firefox startup problems.

Afternoon all.

I'm having a bit of a problem with Firefox. Yesterday everything was fine, but today when I boot it up, it just seems to freeze sucking up huge system resources and sitting there Not Responding. Firefox Safe Mode does just the same.

I've tried everything I can think of including virus scans, adware, trojan, and even completely removing and reinstalling Firefox but even a fresh install does exactly the same. I'm using Netscape at the moment and that runs fine, as does Internet Explorer so I'm a little lost. I am, or was rather, running FF 1.5.0.2

Anyone have any ideas?

Since the problem is persisting while in safe mode, that indicates its not virus or spyware. Its very unlikely for these malicious files to attack the system in safe mode, as they would probably have to infect the bios.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling FireFox itself. This should correct the problem.

Sounds like more then one instance of FF trying to run at the same time. Do you have FF run at startup?

Also are you using a beta version or the latest release?

I had a similar issue using an older version of the SessionSaver extension. The session became corrupted and FF would crash because it kept trying to load the corrupted session at startup.

I also had a similar issue where there were multiple instances of FF trying to run as Sardion mentioned, one was a MOOX build on D: and the other the standard build somehow left on C:

After you uninstall, delete any remaining files/folders, then run a registry cleaning utility. Run a search for "Firefox*" and "*profile*"through your entire C: drive and the drive you installed on to make sure everything is gone. Reboot and reinstall FF. Worked for me in both instances.

I had tried everything... and then tried again. In the end I went and deleted anything Firefox from Application Data and Local settings Application Data (Which I had done at least twice before) then ran a registry cleaning utility!!!

Dunahh!! It's back!
