home.alltel.net...

On April the eighth my stepfather was at the observation deck in Carlsbad New Mexico. He says that he heard nothing and noticed nothing until he was reveiwing his vacation pictures later.
I've tried to figure out what this could be.

It sort of looks like it could be a spy plane
www.spacewar.com...

Or Some sort of blimp prototype
cache.sploid.com...

Then again it could be a bird, but I think it looks to large and metalic to be a bird.

Anyway, it is an interesting photo..of whatever it is..

Do you think this is the best place to discuss this picture or will it be better in the aircraft project board place?

Enlarged it looks like it might be photoshopped or have something around it like an aura or some kind of field hard to tell will have to get the experts in here.

Bird

Size issues are explained by perspective. "Metallic appearance" is explained by artifacts of digital photography and compression.

Head and beak are to the right, tail and wing are to the left.

And oh yes, the "aura" is an artifact as well.

Check out the latest "seagull" thread for explanations of all the above

This is the best place to discuss this pic because its still an unidentified flying object. Ok now you said in your post that he heard nothing on the observation (if I interpreted your words right). If that's the case then that very well may be an alien spacecraft. Another possibility is a bird of course, but it just has that shiny luster to it.....

Silverwingz has a point. Sry, I missed his post because of timing.

look real closely at dialsoap's blowup. is it just me, or is there cursive writing on the object with a handdrawn heart?

the first link's pic did look like it was superimposed or photoshopped. if it's real, though, it could very well be anything. both the blimp pic and the spyplane pic looked just like it. got zoomed in pictures, or anything more clear?

Well this is a real picture of whatever it is. Nothing was photoshopped in and he still has the original picture stored in the camera. When I look closely at it, I can kind of see the eye and beak. I was thinking it looked like a bird but then I started thinking that it looked too metallic, that's why I thought it could be something else. It's still fun to share the picture.

Beautiful Photo of the Guadalupe Mts. looking South-SouthWest from the
Mesa top at the location of Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Just about
the center of the photo and going slightly right (West) you can see El
Capitan and Signal Peak.

Interesting that this type of sighting would NOT have made the news anywhere,
given the amount of traffic and visitors in and around the park area.

Post Script: This photo was NOT taken in Carlsbad, which is some twenty
miles north, but would be closer to Whites City and actually taken
within the area of the Carlsbad Caverns National Park Reception Center.

Ok thanks. I knew he went to see the caverns, but I was unsure if the observation deck he was talking about was in the same place or another place.
He also has pictures of some drawings on a rock. I think he called it newspaper rock or something. Those are really neat and some of them look like they could be pictures of alien creatures. But I don't know if they were ever deciphored. I like the picture he took of someone's little foot on the rock. It is like a black footprint. In the picture it looks like a child's footprint. I like to think of someone putting their little foot on the rock. It is neat that it is still there.

I would say it is probably a bird. But because of the resolution of the camera, it would be difficult to prove.

But to make up your own mind, yOu should definitely check out the other UFO threads where the picture is probably a bird, to compare your shot with those.

Bird!

Its "huge" because of the perspective. Its actually probably flying over/near the parking lot as opposed to be far in the distance landscape.
