They've been giving out a number for months now, as well as telling people not to. It's just a case of not many people paying attention to them in the United Kingdom. Although to be honest, most people know of bird flu in the world if they go around poking dead birds and get it...

To be honest i sorta hope this bird flue pandemic thing happons.....sure millions could die....even me not that i care much for myleff at the moment...but i think this could be good for the world.....i really dont think it will hapon but i sorta hope it dose...its about time the world got a kick in the ass and opend its eyes.

These results are just breaking so links will take a little while...

As I mentioned earlier, there is a company in Weybridge, just outside London that tests on average 50 birds a week, and have yet to discover the H5N1 strain, I hope we are not gonna have a running commentary for every bird tested.

The media are very happy to have this event take place, now they get to speculate on different "what if" scenarios, until they can start reporting on people boycotting poultry......

The reason this is Bigish news in that the Dead swan turns out not to be wild but a domestic swan,

Which i here is bad news and that it means there is a source somewhere that may be a carryer and may not even show symptoms at the moment,

Seems like a reasonable explanation to me since birds are just now starting to migrate, something a domestic swan does not due.

It only stands to reason the carrier is not a swan, although I would assume a wild swan could also carry the strain.

One thing is for sure some bird carried it to the UK.

The most important thing here is that they now take precautions that will prevent contact with the domestic poultry industry in the UK.

Apart from a bit of additional info, what significance is the fact that it was a Mute Swan (non-migratory).

If it had been a migrating swan are we to believe that we were lucky to catch the first bird to fly into the country which had the H5N1 strain, and so have stopped the spread?

The powers that be can only advise farmers etc, to keep thier live stock away from wild birds, I see little point in cordening off areas as they have no way of knowing which bird has the virus until they get a corpse.

The only thing that can be done is to advise and monitor, as there is no way to control.

At the end of the day what is the point of worrying about it, we are not in the posistion to change anything if everyone remains calm the whole country has a better chance of surviving this if it gos critical.´It´s easy for me to say that sitting at a computer in Peru. But i have faith in you UK, keep cool.

well i live in edinburgh, other side of the forth bridge (5 mile from fife as the crow/swan flies) , and we here are kinda just watching on and keeping an eye on things hoping its going to go away.

to be honest, it COULD at any second mutate into a PEOPLE KILLER.

trust scotland to be the place it happens.

An interesting statistic: your post does not contain the word "flu" at all.

Perhaps it would be best to focus discussion more on the question of avian flu in the UK, and less on how much you want people to die.
