Al Qaeda seems to be planning a major attack using the porous Border with Mexico as the entry rout into the US. The mostly unprotected southwestern border with the USA is allowing not only illegal Mexicans across but also evil doers from Al Qaeda.

www.washtimes.com
U.S. intelligence agencies concluded recently that al Qaeda — fearing its credibility is on the line — is moving ahead with plans for a major, "spectacular" attack, despite disruptions of some operations by recent arrests in Britain and Pakistan.
Officials said recent intelligence assessments of the group, which is blamed for the September 11 attacks, state that an attack is coming and that the danger will remain high until the Nov. 2 elections and last until Inauguration Day on Jan. 20.

The open and mostly unprotected border with Mexico has been and is being used as an entry point for those who would do harm to America. Other than Mexicans have been apprehended along the southern border. We seem to be allowing an unprotected border at our own peril.

This article is about Mexican immigration to the US - out of 200,000+ people caught over 2 years 300 were from the ME - big deal!!

There are no facts here that support your (weak) argument, this is one of the most ridiculous posts I've seen on here.

This thread is not about the election of 2004 it is about a porous border problem that is open to entry by people who wish and can do America harm: the problem is ongoing and pertains to today as it was in 2004

The open border has already killed the USA, the only thing left is the burial. Illegals like MS13 have already been caught with AQ in Mexico. The other 20million need to be deported immediately.

Mine fields, 50 cals, fences, poisoned water, poisoned food, whatever it takes........

I do not think anyone said otherwise. This is and will be an ongoing problem for years. I think what brought the election to attention was the fact you used sources over a year old. Perhaps it would have been better had you used a more current article for the discussion.

This is a US domestic issue and should be placed in the appropriate forum

This is an international terrorism issue and it is important to let people hear and understand its importance: WE DON'T NEED ANY ONE COMMING INTO AMERICA WITHOUT KNOWING WHO THEY ARE, WHERE THEY ARE FROM, WHY THEY WANT TO BE HERE, HOW LONG THEY WANT TO STAY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WHAT IS THIER HISTORY AND CHARACTER

Now that is a good one War on terrorism suddenly becomes a domestic issue for the US. Sorry but you are way off base since the story mentions possible attacks on or near the US Southern Borders.

I just wish he had found a more current article on the subject, however that will not change the subject matter the tread is where it belongs just needs more current info is all.

The sources quoted are all about US border controls. Only mention I saw was that some immigrants were from countries placed on watch lists. Hardly the rampant hordes of AQ ferrying supplies across the border the original poster would have us believe

This is a discussion about US immigration (with an underlying racial tone) dressed up to give it an Al Quida slant.

Seems to me many US right-wing stories nowadays are dressed up in similar fashion to grab attention and encourage rabid reactions.

What next? Napalm Mexico as a 'vector of terrorism'?

Key word there is Caught, the ones that are caught are of no consequence, its the ones that arent that are the problem.

It only took 19 men from the ME, to kill thousands and send this country along with many others into two wars.

Are Terorists coming in through the southern border? maybe, I dont realy know neither do you or anyone else, but the fact of the matter is all it takes is a few motivated men to change the world, and effect us all.

I would be willing to bet you will be one of the first to bash the Bush administration, when we do get attacked, and find out the attackers came in through the southern border. now you dont seem to realy care who's coming in or out unchecked, but when something bad happens, it will be a BIG DEAL

You people play the same game of BS time and time again this time is no different, you all complained about the Bush administration doing nothing to prevent 9/11, yet when they start taking measures to prevent it from happening again, you still complain.

You all scream we cant treat Muslim or ME people any different We cant profile a suspiciaous muslim man whos acting funny because it might offend him, there fore we must check grannies and children, to keep you happy, Yet when the whole dubai port deal went down you guys went nutts, and started discriminating the deal based on the fact the company was Middle eastern. and run by muslims, hypocrisy at its best..

Perhaps it would behoove you to read the title that the quoted story used

"Al Qaeda seen planning for 'spectacular' attack"

Seems to me you are trying to derail the thread since the subject matter mentions nothing about immigrants, so lets not read anything other then the security of our borders as related to Al Qaedas possible use of them to enter our country OK.

Now back on topic allow me to furnish more up to date material on this very subject

US-Mexican border as a terror risk

Recent intelligence gives the most evidence yet of terrorist plans. Lawmakers push for tighter security.

WASHINGTON – Concern is growing at the top levels of government about the US-Mexican border becoming a back door for terrorists entering the United States. While Al Qaeda infiltration across the nation's southern border has been a constant concern since 9/11, US officials cite recent intelligence giving the most definitive evidence yet that terrorists are planning to use it as an entry point - if they haven't already.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

As you can clearly see there is concern about our borders even in March of this year.

Not so I'm afraid - the Washington Post story quoted is an assessment that AQ may be planning to attack the US - I'm sure it's true that plans are afoot / unlikely to be proved wrong but no mention of the Mexican border was made

The original poster stated it was via the Mexican border and then produced a dubious report that a few people of Middle-Eastern descent had been caught (not one AQ-linked suspect cited).

Perhaps you should revisit the original post?

A clear case of 2+2=5 - dressing up a story about immigration/border concerns in a cloak of WoT scaremongering.

I looked at your right-wing source (strangely in the US>Domestic Issues section of the CSM site); again no evidence of AQ infiltration just loads of suppositions (Hizbollah is not AQ)

As recent attacks in the UK have shown the threat from Islamic terrorists is far more likely to come from within / closer to home.

Ok....if such an attack happened and it was determined that the porous border situation....I think there would be calls for the immediate impeachment of bush and it might actually happen since he purposely dragged his feet on this issue.

dont you guys think that if someone wanted to do another terrorist attack in the USA he could have easily....looong time ago. Look at sheer numbers of illegal immigrants that come into your country every day....you cant find one looney with a bomb. If such people existed i belive they would have done it by now already.

This is just one more reason to watch your government, i mean what crappy good for nothing peace of news, it is only good for scaring the already paranoid population.

Oh I did revisit the orignal post that is why I stated I wished he had used a more current story.

Site Quoting newsmax as a source

Al-Qaida Operative Nabbed Near Mexican Border

An al-Qaida operative who was on the FBI's terrorist watch list was recently captured near the Mexican border, housed in a Texas jail and turned over to federal agents, Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas, said on Friday.

"A confirmed al-Qaida terrorist, an Iraqi national, was held in the Brewster County jail," Rep. Culberson told ABC Radio host Sean Hannity. "He was captured in Mexico. This was within the last six weeks. He was turned over to the FBI."

The Texas Republican said he obtained the stunning information about the terrorist's capture "from the sheriffs who were directly involved.

Now even those two articles are not as current as I would like, however they do show that some members of al qaida have been captured on the border.

You can listen to a radio interview right here that discusses this very issue if you doubt wither it is real or not 760kfmb.com
