US troops bulldoze farms as punishment

US soldiers driving bulldozers, with jazz blaring from loudspeakers, have uprooted ancient groves of date palms as well as orange and lemon trees in central Iraq as part of a new policy of collective punishment of farmers who do not give information about guerrillas attacking US troops.

Ever wondered why Iraqi's are ungrateful? Ya, me neither.

Well I for one am shocked!

Jazz is totally inappropriate at this stage in the war!

Certianly some heavy rock or punk would go better with gunfire and bulldozers.

After thinking about it for a while I think that this is awful.

These people have lived with a lifelong fear of their government and it's power to kill them at will. I am sure they feared for their lives if they turned in the attackers. It was a no win situation for them.

It is inhumane and plain stupid to destroy one of the only resources availible in the desert! These people have relied on those trees for income and survival!
I have no idea what General approved this sick and disgusting idea to kill ancient trees, but when I find out he will be hearing from my Senetor and God have mercy on his soul I never meet him.

I normaly don't post like this unless I have anything of value to add(yeah right). But this # pisses me off. I can't describe my anger towards these actions with words.

Well Advisor, I'm glad I got a medical discharge in boot camp. I'm sure if I was in Iraq and heard about this going on I'd be shooting my superiors. Something this stupid has to be treason.

This is what is called as: 'digging your own grave'..

Not to mention that destroying internal food sources means the Iraqis really will have to rely on the US to survive. The US can downplay the whole the farm destroying thing and tell the US public that slow rebuilding is the reason we must continue to occupy Iraq.

...hope Lt Col Springman gets a nice steel-jacketed high-velocity lobotomy...along with the bulldozer drivers...
