It's not that I don't understand what they are supposed to mean.
It's just that since these concepts are used to build simplistic mockups of reality, which at their best yield fierce academic debates which in many
cases can't be concretely resolved, and at their worst are only good for accomplishing simple and useless tasks such as selling violent videogames to
kids, they really don't seem to have much practical use in serious institutions of higher learning. They seem particularly out of place in a course
designed to inspire deeper and more analytical thinking, since they do the exact opposite by oversimplifying and encouraging one to rely on
generalities which can readily disregard disproving contradictory examples.
