Pyramid at Chichen Itza

Been to the top, nice view but nothing overwhelming interesting itself as that part has been heavily rebuilt

I spend my graduate days organizing the clearing of Mayan ruins up around Merida.

Merida, yes that does ring a bell. I was completely gutted on my holiday though. I wanted to get to a few other Mayan ruins too but I couldn't go on one of the trips because it was cancelled due to 'lack of interest'/No ticket sales it was disgusting.

Sounds good what you got to do though.

Hot dusty, dirty work, the workers, Maya themselves wouldn't take orders from the female Ph.d in charge so being the tallest male with a command voice (and youngest and least trained) I got to be 'El Supremo' and direct the work groups - fun work if you can get it. Did pick up some of the local Maya dialect, thirty of so of them, as they spoke that better than Spanish.

I like the dirty works! It is funny that they wouldn't take orders from a woman. That might be a bit of an insight into the moral culture of the Maya people. They really called you that? haha

Some of the tourguides I had were Maya and apparently (and seemingly evidently), the language is still very popular.

Mainly clearing brush and small trees so we could see the ground and do a survey of the various ruins. At that time we were looking for signs of the "common folk" and in particular the workshops of craftmen.

been all over cechen itza. didn't get any eerie feelings, was overtaken by awe half the time but nothing that spooked me. did see a UFO at 4am in a little village up the highway one night after visiting Palenque. but even then it wasn't an eerie feeling.

I think it was the temple of the warriors off the ball court where people were sacraficed. pretty much anywhere there is a staute of chac mul.

Eerie feeling, other than a feeling that crept over me after over indulging in huaraches. Not a thing! But then I was working there, eerie feeling are for tourists and shaman.

merida is beautiful. like a city in spain or something. doesn't feel like mexico to me. a unique mexican city.

Of the four Mexican and Central American cities I spent the most time in. I'd rate Merida the best, the other four were lacking - or had too much of either people, pollution or dirt.

Those were Mexico City, Cancun and Tegucigalpa

I got a serene sense when I was up on the top, sort of overwhelming, but nothing too eerie. The climb up was immense, it truly was made to have one bow to God.

I guess I'm fortunate also, I was able to go inside the pyramid up to the jaguar throne also. Now, this gave me an eerie feeling, as I was inside. If I remember Egyptian lore, there is alot of energy focused inside the pyramid, or something to that nature. But, it was cool anyways.

The one thing I regret, is I did not explore the building where they studied Astronomy much. Since studying the Mayan Calendar, their astronomy building might hold some clues I'd like to check out!!

Somwhere on the net I came across a virtual recreation of the observation dome. Sorry cannot find it now. It was associated with either an Italian University or some other third trier institution.

I was visiting Chechen Itza last year with my family and caught this picture on the Pyramid, we we're clapping on the north side of the pyramid this causes a strange echo that sounds like a high pitched bird chirp (only happens on this one side) it is also the side where the snake travels from the top to the bottom of the stairs twice per year during the equinox
Check out this picture I took about 200 photos that day this is the only one that has this light on it and I checked all of the other cameras we had with us (5 in total) that were taking pictures at the same time and this is the only picture with this image on it. Our whole trip to this area was incredible and YES I could feel something, a presence or power and this picture was just too weird it has a picture of a Mayan ghost it looks like some of the paintings and carvings of mayan gods.
This picture is right off my camera completly untouched.

If you want to explore this great pyramid, just go visit it on Google Earth.
If you have the right plugins, then there are 3d pyramids there, its pretty neat.
Also, the user pics give you a real view from a specific place on the Google Earth map. Throw all of the webcams that are connected, it all makes for a surreal experience. Its too bad google might be the f ledds.
